flowers of India says it grows in bogs, wet lands near rivers etc ..
was your tree growing in such wet places

I wish we could peek inside the flowers for the telltale signs of its flowered id...

"Does not match with Tamilnadia ulginosa. Looks more like a Catunaregam species. The details of the flowers are not clear. The ID would be easy if the close ups of the flowers are posted."

Earlier this was called Randia turgida.  Ceresoides turgida is the updated name.
