grass Paspalum sp.? from Hooghly 16/8/12 SK2

Sir,

Attaching images of a grass, found on roadside, yesterday. Grasses are so enigmatic, even after Manoj Sir discussed it so beautifully in my earlier post (https://groups.google.com/d/topic/indiantreepix/AMg6Y8h1ytg/discussion) i am not sure if this could be another Paspalum sp.

Species : Paspalum distichum Linn. ?

Habit & Habitat : grass on roadside

• height : about 1 foot or less
• leaves : upper - 3 cm x 0.5 cm; lower at base - 6cm x 0.7 cm
• racemes 2, about 6 cm each, "V" shaped

Date : 15/8/12, 9.32 A.M.

Place : Garalgacha (Hooghly)

Hai !

Your are right. This is the actual Paspalum distichum also called Paspalum paspalodes.

There is another sp. Paspalum vaginatum, which is often mistaken as P.distichum. It has shorter and stiff racemes with larger ovate spikelets than the actual P.distichum.
