Tree seen in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco on 30th Sept,14. 
A large tree, with a lot of small black fruits.

reminds me of elderberry...

if bluish black, most likely sambucus canadensis...
but if it is, it does not match your description of large tree...
elderberries are small trees generally...
but as i said size does not make a tree...

Thanks for a possible id.
This was a reasonably large tree, like a Golden Champa.
I have posted berries of Sambucus nigra from Pahalgam earlier.
They are small round berries.

Some earlier relevant feedback:

reminds me of elderberry...
if bluish black, most likely sambucus canadensis...
but if it is, it does not match your description of large tree...
elderberries are small trees generally...
but as i said size does not make a tree...
