'CACTUS' WITH PODS IN THE SHIVALIK FOOTHILLS OF PUNJAB

Dear Mr. Garg,

Could the members of this esteemed group help identify this gregarious 'cactus' with purple pods growing in the floodplains of the Shivalik foothhills, 15 km from Chandigarh, village Jayanti Majri, Punjab. Pics were taken on January 12, 2020. On prising open the pod, it releases a crimson sap with seeds (pics attached).
