On 03-05-08 Pravin Kawale posted photos of Salvadora persica. Here is a photo of the same species in its dry habitat but bordering the marshland in Uran (across the harbour from Mumbai city). As Sunjoy Monga says it is relished by birds such as swarms of Rosy Pastors. We observed white, pink and bright red fruits, the latter very, very tempting to eat. But I wasn’t sure so left it for the resident birds!

Hello Kiran

You missed the opportunity of enjoying these fruits for free !
Salvadora Persica fruits are locally known as "Sara".
They used to sell them in these months not very long ago.
You may still find these fruits being sold in local market.
The white, red, pink colored watery fruits sweet or hot in taste are mild alchoholic.

Warm Regards

Sagar Mhatre.
