Sir,

Madhusudanpur is the next station after Kamarkundu on Howrah-Burdwan-Chord-Line. Main economic activities are agriculture and milk or milk products. All sweetmeat shops of Calcutta and suburbs would have been closed unless daily supply of curd (coagulated milk) from this region and regions lying within 20km of this place were made by milkmen.

The place is slightly lowland around railway tracks and gets submerged during rainy season. Besides, there are some shallow waterbodies dug by railway for excavating ground in order to elevate railway tracks.

A few enthusiasts, with vision, grow lotus in these marshes. I had the info but couldn't make it earlier. All flowers were plucked a few hours earlier than i reached the place, at around 11.00 a.m., this morning.

Species : Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.
Habit & Habitat : cultivated in lowland
Date : 23/9/12, 11.15 a.m.
Place : Madhusudanpur (Hooghly)
