As keys were not working in the absence of flowers, I tried all species listed in the book as per comparative images at Elaeocarpus and specimens from India in GBIF as below:

E.varunua as per GBIF- specimen1, plant illustration, India Biodiversity Portal and IBIS Flora (FBI)  

Closest I could go is https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/gallery?country=IN&taxon_key=4031611 (E. aristattus) as per specimen 1 and specimen 2, based on leaf shape etc.
