Flora of Kaiga_ID_Please_21082011 PJ2
.
 This grass patches is seen along Kali river bank.
 
Date/Time-:18/08/11   -    16:30
Location- Place, Altitude - Kaiga , Uttar Kannada ,Karnataka, 380 mtrs
Habitat- Garden/ Urban/ Wild/ Type-   wild
Plant Habit- Tree/ Shrub/ Climber/ Herb-
Height/Length- 1m

Yes, it may be Typha owing to the habitat and flat (?) leaves. Its difficult to confirm id in vegetative condition.

Distributed as  Typha species 

Looking at narrow leaves, it could be T. laxmannii, in similar narrow leaved species T. minima leaves are very short

Catalogue of Life and POWO give its distribution only from western Himalayas.
