Hello!

I’ve been evaluating what needs to be done to bring iLocalize back to the App Store and in addition to that, what’s needed to continue to maintain it. Unfortunately I’m no longer able to commit to the service that I wish to offer for iLocalize so I decided to retire it officially. You can still download the beta version of the application and I’m going to post any update if I’m able to carve some time for it. It is a very hard decision that I making as I really love the community that’s around iLocalize and the impressive amount of support and help that you all provided. Thanks a zillion, really!

I’m going to spend more time with my family and my young children who need more attention from me than my software.

Regards,

Jean

O wow... there's truly no real alternative to iLocalize from where I'm standing. With iLocalize dies graceful localization that has served my purposes for so many years. I'm kind of shocked.

That being said I'd like to thank you for the cooperation over the years. Time with the family is certainly a fine way to spend it. You can only see your kids grow up once.

If an occasional update comes along over time, then that's a bonus.

Hello Jean.

I really adore your work for iLocalize and I am proud to have
contributed to it for so many years.
I also fully understand that the fast innovation process of Apple
sometimes can make it really hard for us developers to keep step with them.

I also confirm what Alexander said from the localizers' point of view -
there is no other tool like iLocalize which really offers this smooth
workflow to both developers and localizers.

My wife works as a manager in a hospice. She sees in here daily work how
important it is to live NOW and pay more attention to your beloved ones.
Even when your children are still young, sharing time with them is
invaluable. Being a good dad who is there for them much time, is
priceless. :-)

Thank you so much for all your work for iLocalize (and your other apps).

Hi Jean!

Thank you for this wonderful work on iLocalize. You've been a great supporter of the Skype for Mac and iOS localizations over many years and I am very grateful for all the features we've asked and you enabled for us to have! iLocalize supported our community localization in ways no other tool could have. So a deep bow for all the things you've made possible!
Spending the time with the family and kids serves as the best reason for retirement. I wish you a lot of fun and happiness!
Cheers,

Triin

My feeling exactly.
Jean, you have created a wonderful and extremely useful software and while I’m sad at the perspective to see it go, I really wanted to thank you for all that hard work in the past xxx years.
Enjoy the time with your family and children!!! And thanks again!

Hello Jean,
and thank you so much for all the effort you've put into creating and maintaining a decent localization app for the Mac.

The latest beta (v4.3.2) unfortunately seems to have stopped working since Mac OS 10.11 was released. I cannot get the save function to do anything (it looks like it's saving the work, but actually it doesn't), so I guess an update is needed to make it work under Mac OS 10.11.

Since this seems to be the only localization app around, we are now left with Apples Xcode for doing the localizations. Xcode is a fine app, but it just doesn't have the localization features built into iLocalize, for example the box with suggestions from previous translations shown in the bottom left corner in the project window. This feature increases the quality of the translations, i'm sure of it.

If you'd update it to work under 10.11, i'm sure quite a few would buy the update if you charged for it, hopefully many enough to make it worth the work.

Hi Bertil,

I don’t have any problem using iLocalize for translating GC. There are is course one issus for using it without problem under 10.11. But once you know how to deal with it, it works fine.

GC is now only dealing with strings files so you can no more launch GC directly from within iLocalize to test the localization. This is issue can be solved like this.
- Make a copy of the beta version you get from Thorsten and that you are using to update your current iLocalize database. Lets call it GC COPY to make it easier.
- Make the project update as usual using the GC app sent by Thorsten.
- Make the translation of the various strings in iLocalize as usual and save it. This action save your work in the GC app that is located in the Source folder of the GC iLocalize project (as usual). Lets call it GC SOURCE to make it easier.
- Open the GC COPY package. Then the Ressources folder in a Finder window.
- Open the GC SOURCE package. Then the Ressources folder in another Finder window and look for your localized folder (for me as french user it’s the fr.lproj folder) copy this folder then paste it in the Ressources folder window of the GC COPY package, you will overwrite the already contained folder.
- You are done.

You can now launch the GC COPY app with your updated .lproj folder and see if everything works fine. Send to Thorsten screenshots of the windows that have strings truncation or other display problems. Done. On the next version that Thorsten sends you have a look if everything matches and you are done :-)

That is the only problem for localizing all the current GC versions.

For localizing other programs that are dealing with nibs and strings, they are no problem with launching them from within iLocalize or if they are some, then apply the above procedure.
The only problem that you can have is when a nib was updated by adding new strings that impact the window size and strings organization. In that case the rebuild from source action doesn’t work (for any reason) under 10.11. The work around consist in :
- memorizing (screenshot) all the nibs names that have changed since the last project update and that you can see in the iLocalize window when updating the iLocalize project of your app.
- Open the source langage localization of your ilocalize app project
- Select the updated nib file, then using the contextual menu select « Rebuild selected files ». This action will rebuild all the localized files in all the other langage of your project.
- Go back in your langage project and edit the nibs as before.
- You are done

Until now these are the only 2 issues I have to deal with the various app I have to localize under 10.11.

Please also contact Ulf Dunkel that are making enhancement to iLocalize. You can download a version here :

Hi Philippe,
and thank you very much for your comment. For this version, I think I'll go on using Xcode since I'm almost finished with GCv10 but next time i'll try using iLocalize again, following your instructions below and perhaps using Ulf Dunkels modernized update of the app.

Cheers,

/Bertil

iLocalize 4.3.4 has been released. It's not the "big jump", but should at least run "more stable", even on OS X 10.11.

I’m reviving this thread yeeaaarrrs after it has retired, but MacUpdater notified me today that there was a slightly newer (4.3.7) version of iLocalize out there.
I checked back on https://www.dsd.net/prod/mac/ilocalize.php?pmode=download and it still only offers a version 4.3.5. I don’t know what fixes 4.3.7 brings, but I would sure love to get the new build :-) Does anyone have a download link?? (Ulf???).
