Hi all,
I've just seen this call for participation at FOSDEM [1] and I was
wondering if someone is interested in getting there for lighting talk(s).

Anyone?

I won't be able to attend but encourage someone else to step up.  I'm sure we can provide enough material to use.  :-)

I did not provide a submission yet but I think I will participate. I
wait for LDAPCon to discuss with you about the opportunity of joining
Identity Ecosystem with my new company (Savoir-faire Linux). If so, I
would be happy to talk about it at FOSDEM.

Yes that sounds good.  We can discuss in Edinburgh.   Some of the others will be there too.  Francesco maybe you can join us via skype for that conversation?

Hi,

I'm not that much interested in a lightning talk ... I was at FOSDEM
last year and the lightning talk format was not that attractive.

But maybe we could set up a devroom for opensource identity? I'm sure we
can fill at least half day.

We (Evolveum) can easily do two presentations, 1 hour each. One for
product-agnostic introduction to IAM and another for midPoint
introduction. Francesco, if you are going it would be only fair if you
make a Syncope introduction as well. And I hope there are also others
that can provide good content. What do you think?

Submission deadline is mid october. Now, looking at the previous event,
I wonder if it's not more just something for hackers than for people
like us. wdyt ?

We should discuss the devroom earlier. The deadline for devroom proposal
is 9 October. It took quite a long time for FOSDEM team to finally push
out the call for participation. So I guess the whole schedule will be a
bit rushed. We need to decide quickly if we want to participate (and I
really want to). This is an interesting event community-wise. If I
remember the number correctly there is approx. 5000 attendees. Last year
all the devrooms were desperately full of people most of the time.

This sounds good: do you believe it is feasible to book a devroom?

I think it is a great idea. You just have to fill the form:

Last year most of the attendees were young (under 30) and they might
well fit into a "hacker" category :-) But I guess that in the huge
number of attendees there was a good selection of people for most
devrooms. Judging by the questions from the audience there were people
that understood the topic quite well. I attended Java devroom, security
and a couple more. The quality varied, but overall it was a good event.

The talks in the security devroom were mostly about two factor
authentication and crypto and stuff like that:
https://archive.fosdem.org/2015/schedule/track/security_devroom/
Identity devroom was missing. I think that it should be there.

I do not expect any direct business benefit here. But it will definitely
help to spread the word about our projects. It might attract users and
maybe even some contributors.

Agreed. Spreading teh world about what we do is needed anyway.

Thanks Radovan.

Yes. We need to put together 7-8 hours for a full day. With you we
already have 3 hours. If Clement and someone from Symas joins, we have 5
hours. If we get at least one more, we can fill the rest with a
hackaton/workshop/panel and we have a full day. Maybe after Budapest and
Edinburg we might even have a demo of the ecosystem to show there. And
there can be a very nice interoperability demonstration at the end of
the day.

Hello,

I would like to know if someone submitted a proposal for a devroom
(https://submission.fosdem.org/devroom.php). As I am not yet member of
the Identity Ecosystem, I did not do it but I can if no one else
wants.

Clément.

Hi Clement,

I have submitted the proposal yesterday. I have no answer from the
FOSDEM team yet. I have put a preliminary list of topics in the proposal
and I hope these will be good enough to get the room approved. We will
compile the final list once the room is approved. Igor Farinic will take
care of the details.

If you plan to have a presentation you are more than welcome - no matter
if you are formal part of the ecosystem or not. The devroom is open to
any open source project, not just the ecosystem members.

Yes I plan to submit proposal, on subjects like SAML, OpenID Connect,
or softwares like LemonLDAP::NG or LSC. Maybe the best is to see what
other will propose and tell me what would be the most interesting.

Hi Clement,

if the accept Identity and Access management devroom you are more than welcome to join us.
Your presentation is also very good fit to our other presentations with no overlap.
