You are invited to submit a proposal for a research grant. The purpose of this grant is to encourage university researchers, in partnership with WCG policy-makers, to consider new approaches, methodologies and interventions for addressing the seemingly intractable problems facing the Province. It is required that you have a Western Cape Government partner, preferably at a higher level. Please ensure that you contact and engage the partners early on in the process. Partnering with another institution in the Western Cape would be beneficial to the application.
This year, the focus is on Fostering a Regional Innovation System (RIS). I attach an article relating to RIS, which may be of help. In general, there are five sectors involved in an inclusive regional innovation system: (a) government, (b) research institutions, (c) universities, (d) firms and, critically, (e) communities. The aim of this approach is a sustainable impact. The call consists of four clear phases of research with the final aim of recommendations about which sector of social and economic innovation would benefit from increased support and institutional, funding, and capacity support that would be most effective in establishing a Regional Innovation Forum in the Western Cape. The call provides for a maximum amount of R500 000, budgets must be detailed and indicate costs per phase. Please ensure the language is not too academic while demonstrating expertise and mastery. The audience is mainly the Western Cape Government.
The internal review date is
1 March with final submissions to CHEC on
4 March 2021. The earlier the work is sent for internal review (
ear...@uwc.ac.za), the more time for constructive feedback before final submission.
Please read the
call carefully and feel free to contact Prof Elizabeth Archer -
ear...@uwc.ac.za / 084 305 1321 if you require support or guidance.
