*** Workshop Overview ***

Many development projects today involve teams, which are distributed
over multiple sites or countries. Major drivers are cost
competitiveness,
access to talent regardless of location, and co-location with
important
markets or customers. While the advantages are obvious, global
development
also introduces big challenges. One of the major problem areas is
requirements engineering. Communication and coordination of
requirements
are impeded by distance, different domain knowledge and organizational
structures as well as cultural differences. Miscommunication is one
major
reason for issues such as cost overruns, project delay and quality
problems.

This workshop will focus on multi-site collaboration and intercultural
issues on requirements and how to deal with them, providing a forum
for
discussion of best practices, lessons learned and for experience
exchange.

*** Topics of Interest ***

Topics to be addressed include, but are not limited to:
- Requirements Engineering in globally distributed projects
- Multi-site collaboration and intercultural issues on requirements
- Communication in requirements development and requirements
management
- Writing and understanding of requirements in an intercultural
environment
- Softskills and other people-related aspects such as trust, personal
contact and teambuilding in requirements engineering
- Training and coaching in global requirements engineering
- Delegation of responsibility in globally distributed projects

*** Types of Contributions ***

Position papers (3-5 pages) Short papers state the position of the
author(s) on any of the topics within the scope of the workshop. For
example, a position paper could describe lessons learned with
requirement
reviews experienced in an intercultural environment. Position papers
will
be evaluated based on their practical relevance, potential for
generating
discussion, and on the originality of the positions expressed.

Full papers (8-10 pages) Full papers describe and report on
experiences
and concepts for dealing with collaboration and intercultural issues
in
Requirements Engineering. For example, a full paper could describe how
collaboration issues on requirements are observed and handled in a
global
development project, or a research approach for analysis and
improvement
of Requirements Engineering in an intercultural environment. Full
papers
will be evaluated based on the originality and significance of the
contribution, soundness of the validation process or quality of the
survey procedure, and on the broader practical applicability of the
results.

Paper Submission June 21, 2009
Notification of Acceptance July 13, 2009
Camera-Ready Paper August 3, 2009
Workshop August 31, 2009

*** Submission ***

Only electronic submissions are accepted. To be considered for review,
a
paper submission must be in the IEEE CS Press Proceedings format
(http://www.computer.org/portal/site/cscps/index.jsp). Paper
submissions
must not exceed 5 pages for a position paper or 10 pages for a full
paper.
Submissions are to be done via EasyChair from the workshop homepage.
Accepted papers will be published as workshop proceedings in the IEEE
Digital Library. At least one author must participate in the workshop.
