*Thumba is a small white flower native to Kerala. Thumbakudam is a bunch of thumba flowers which hang from a stalk. This is a very important flower for Onapookkalam (Onam flower arrangement). The first day of the pookkalam, you are supposed to use only thumba poovu/flower for pookkalam and in some homes, the last day of pookkalam the inner most layer will be only bunches of thumba/thumbakudam.
**Thalika can mean either plate or disk. Moon is endearingly called ambili ammavan or uncle moon in Kerala, especially when we talk to kids.

தமிழ்ப் பாடல்களில் தும்பி வரும்போது, அது carpenterbee-ஆ, அல்லது dragonfly-ஆ என அறிதல் கடினம். ஏதாவது சிலபாடல்களில் சொல்லக்கூடிய செய்திகள் இருக்கும். உ-ம்: தும்பி குழல் ஊதும் என்கிறபோது, carpenterbee எனலாம்.

தும்பி என்ற பெயர்க்காரணம் பல ஆண்டு முன்னர் சொல்லியுள்ளேன். துமர் > தமர் = துளைத்தல். தும்முதல் - நாசியில் துளைத்து ஏற்படும். தும்முச் செறுப்ப - குறள். அளி இனங்களில் தும்பி ஓர் ஞிமிறு (ஞிமிர்தல் - buzzing, ஞிமிறு = buzzing bee).

தட்டான் ‘smith' மிகப் பழைய இரும்புப் பொருள்களை உருவாக்கினோர், எஃகு கண்டுபிடித்தோர். ‘தட்டான் புறப்பட்ட வேடிக்கையே’ கவி காளமேகம். அதுபோல், தச்சன் தை எனும் வினையில் வரும் சிந்துவெளித் தொழில் பெயர். த(ய்)க்கன் > தக்‌ஷன் என ஆகிற்று.
