I am a freshman on the school of Wordfast (although physically old enough to receive pensions – a potential client sent me TXML file which I learned is Wordfast document).

I downloaded zipped Wf_561k_win (free version) on the desktop and wanted to install it.

I am stuck now.

The message provided by Wordfast says as follows:

Click 'Word options' in the Office menu. Under 'Macro Settings', select 'Disable all macros except digitally signed macros' and check 'Trust Access to the VBA project'. Under 'Message Bar', make sure 'Show the Message Bar in all applications when content has has been blocked' is checked.

Close and restart Ms-Word. Run installation again. If this does not help, consult the WfReadMe.Txt file.”

I am using Windows 7 computer (HP Pavillion Japan version) and cannot find “Macro Settings.” The closest I can find is “Temporary Halt of Macro” in Macro Display window but it is grayed out so that I can use it (all in Japanese unfortunately).

Any help?

Instead of making us guess what "Temporary Halt of Macro" is in Japanese, why don't you just post in Japanese whatever is written in Japanese?

When I said:

I meant to say “I cannot use it” instead of “I can use it.”

Dear Minoru,

TXML is a Wordfast format, but the version of Wordfast you need is called Wordfast Pro, which is a Java-based application. The version you are asking about is now called Wordfast Classic, and does not have direct support for TXML.

the support group for WF Pro is at wf_...@yahoogroups.com.

I understand you have Trados. Have you tried opening the file in TagEditor?

There are two versions of WordFast - WF Classic (WFC) and WF
Professional (WFP). I use the former, and have not used the latter.

If I understand correctly, TXML files are generally translated using WF
Professional. If you buy WF Classic, you get WF Professional bundled
with it.

The version you have downloaded is free up to 500 translated units. It
may not work beyond this number; you'll have to get a license.

If you are more familiar with WF classic and want to use it for
translating TXML files, then you should "pretranslate" or
"dummy-translate" the TXML file first using WF Pro. Open the TXML file
in WFP and "translate" it so that source=target. Then open the TXML
file in MS Word, use tw4winInternal and tw4winExternal to tag it, and
then use WFC to translate that file.

I think you are familiar with Trados, so the above method may be the way
to go.

Since I have not used WF PRO, I suggest you post detailed questions to
the WF Pro mailing list:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WF_PRO/

OR if you wish to go the WF Classic way:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wordfast/

Thank you very much for a sensible help.

I thought I need to install Wordfast Classic, which seemed to me the easiest, no-cost download product.

I will try TagEditor.

Marc,

I suggest you to buy a Windows 7 computer Japanese version, in case you are seriously interested and have no access to it.

Unfortunately, that will not help him at all with the problem in question.
He can use an English version of Windows 7 or any other language
version, but he will need the Japanese version of Word 2007 in this case.

To use Wordfast Classic with Word 2007, just place wordfast.dot into the
Startup folder of Word and point Word to that folder.
You will have to adjust the security settings and allow access to VBA.
No installation is required, and removal is possible simply by removing
or deleting wordfast.dot.

Have fun,

Roland

Thank you for the insightful information.
I was out for a few hours for a hospital appointment so that I could not
thank you promptly.

Thanks Roland.

Ain't I having fun!

Somehow (I don't have time to detail or knowledge enough to tell you how I
did it) I am working on the particular translation job. Sometime I don't
know if I am benefitting with so much, so fast software product development
related to translation works.
I have no time to learn the new version of MS Work.
I attended a free seminar held in Tokyo by SDL Trados Japan a few days ago.
It seems that the new SDL Trados Studio can handle pdf files directly.

I now have both SDL Trados 2007 and SDL Trados 2009 running on my Windows 7
computer.

I am sure SDL will release yet another new product before I get to master
2009.
