No network connection

My Hermes-Light dies a weeks ago no lights nothing so i left it and yesterday i powered it up and the frontHW led is solid and the CON/CLK led is flashing but i have no ethernet leds on.  I cannot scan the ip adress or ping the radio it is defantly not connecting to the pc    I have tried differant cables and i borrowed another Hermes and that works fine 

Has anyone had this issue and could you describe the diagnostic steps i should take please

Yes I believe I had something similar.  I had set the IP Address manually, left off for a period and next time I fired it up it did much as you described.

The fix was to do a hard reset on it (keyed a morse key on the PTT port while turning it on).  This fixed the issue.

Thanks Trevor yes i have done that but in saying it ill do it again as i have nothing to loose,   Ill report back and let you know how i go

Update -- I tried resetting again and no luck    I dont have any of the network leds on ie the 2 leds on the ethernet socket

Hi Taz,

If the two LEDs on the ethernet jack do not light, it typically means there is no cable connection. Are you certain both ends of the ethernet cable are firmly plugged in to active ports, and have you tried more than one cable? Please examine the pins of the ethernet port. Are any bent? Please post pictures of the ethernet jack as well as the top/bottom of the ethernet section of the HL2 board. Do you still see the same behavior when the HL2 is pulled from the enclosure? What voltage do you measure for Veth? See the schematic:

Thanks Steve the network cable and pc are 100% working properly   The voltage at Veth is 2.79v 
I hope these photos are ok   I noticed if i leave the hermes on the LSP led will slow flash

Hi Taz,

The left most pin in the ethernet port looks like it may be bent down, or that just might be an artifact of the photo. Can you please check that it is at a height similar to the other pins?

On the bottom side of the board, some of the components (like B46 in the center) have blurry ends. Can you please touch some of those soldered ends to make sure it is solid solder and not still solder paste?

What is the value printed on R34? It is at the top of your pcb-bottom photo near B36. Also, does the blinking clk LED (one of the 4 red LEDs) blink at a rate of 1Hz or 2Hz? This is to check for this issue:

When you did the factory reset, did you short all pins of CN4 before powering the unit on, and then keep them shorted for ~5 seconds?

Thanks for your help Steve i never took notice on the bottom of the board, im not sure what would have caused the corosian ? as its always been in its case  Anyway i have gone over the resistors but still the same

The value ofvR34 is 68B ? it is the same as the photo in the page you shared

The clk led is blinking at 2Hz

Yes i shorted all pins of CN4 for more than 5 seconds :)
D4 is now flashing for 1 second every 3 seconds i know my pc and cable are correct (ive tried 2 other pc and many cables and my borrowed hermes connects perfectly)

ill go back over the trouble shooting network page again tonight

Hi Steve its about 2 yrs old so well out of warranty   Ive been looking to see if there was anyone in Australia who can repair them as i can send it to someone in the states but the dollar conversion is bad atm

Hi Taz,

This really sounds like a accidental static IP assignment, but the factory boot didn't fix the issue. I would try finger pressure/heat check of various components associated with the ethernet when you power it on. For example, apply inwards pressure to the cable when powering on, downward pressure to the ethernet mac chip. Some capacitor or resistor may have become disconnected so try firmly pressing these.

If you have an oscilloscope, we can walk through some other debugging steps.

Thanks Steve ive had a strange occurance in that the led D4 lights up for a second the pc recognises it ??   The video is the board infront of the screen and you can see when the led is in the pc sees it for a split second 

I dont have a oscilloscope :( but tomorrow im going to do what you sudgested and ill let you know   My diagnostic sills are limited sorry

Hi Taz,

The LED lighting at the same time on you HL2 indicates a 1GB low level link established. Are you connecting this directly to your computer or through a router? I would recommend using a router with proper DHCP server for testing.
