Hello, I bought it on January 14, 2026. There were no problems until yesterday. It worked in the evening. When I turned it on in the morning, it didn't connect in the program. The two outer LEDs were just blinking. The indicators on the network connector weren't lit. I checked the patch cord, reset it to factory settings, connected it directly to the computer, tried it with the router, nothing changed. Please help me figure this out.

Subject: Network connection issue with L829-1J1T-43 jack / LEDs D4-D5 state
Hi everyone,
My case is very similar to the issue described in this thread: https://groups.google.com/g/hermes-lite/c/cRClwQQEZvE
This issue just happened out of nowhere when I powered on the device in the morning.
Here is my current LED status:
  • D2 is flashing (at a normal rate)
  • D3 is OFF
  • D4 is OFF
  • D5 is ON
I have already tried a factory reset (by shorting all pins of the CN4 jumper for more than 5 seconds before power-up), but it didn't help.
I also checked the Ethernet jack for any signs of physical damage or corrosion, and tried using a different cable connected directly to the PC and through a router.
Is it possible for the L829-1J1T-43 jack to get damaged by an ESD (electrostatic discharge) event? Or could it be a failure of the Ethernet PHY/MAC section?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Insert this shorted plug into the KEY/PTT jack.
  • Power on the Hermes Lite 2 and keep the connections shorted for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Turn off the power and remove the shorted plug.
  • Power the radio back on normally; it will now be restored to factory default

Your statement above shows you removed shorting plug before turning the unit on. The shorting plug needs to be inserted while powering on.

Sorry for the incorrect description, I'm using a translator, thank you

No problem. I am at my limit of knowledge to help you further, but someone surely will be here to help.

It looks like the ksz9021rn chip is failing, am I right? I measured the resistance relative to ground on pin 47 of the chip (capacitor C39), and it's 23 ohms.

If I'm reading the schematic correctly, it looks like FB10 is open. Looks like that's just a ferrite bead, probably on a very thin wire.

Hi ub4hab,

What resistance do you measure through FB10? It should be near 0. Maybe FB10 failed or became open. You can substitute a short wire for FB10 if you do not have a similar ferrite bead.

It is unclear from your description if you shorted all connections of the KEY/PTT jack to ground before or during power on. These need to be shorted before and during power on and kept shorted for ~30 seconds after power on.

Please send pictures of the ethernet quarter of you HL2 PCB, both top and bottom. We may be able to spot a problem.

I measured incorrectly last time, the resistance on the FB10 was 0 Ohm, all voltages (1.2 V-3.3 V and 2.5 V) on the chip are normal, the generation on the quartz is normal (25 MHz). I found the following deviations, checked the MagJack with an ohmmeter, it failed and pulled the chip along with it, apparently this happened due to static electricity, you will probably have to change the KSZ9021RN

I ordered the KSZ9021RN chip and MagJack connector and am waiting for it to arrive.

I am concerned that none of the LEDs light up when the Ethernet cable is connected to the MagJack port on both the computer and the Hermes-Lite 2 sides

Hi UB4HAB,

Between pins 11 and 10 of the MagJack, you show 0 Ohms on your diagram. Wouldn't it be 0 Ohms for DC due to the magnetics? Did you mean open circuit?

I didn't measure between contacts 11 and 10, I measured relative to GND, the red wire of the multimeter to GND, the black to contact 10 and to 11, the readings are 0 Ohm

I repaired my Hermes Lite 2, replaced the ksz9021rn and MagJack, now everything works, thank you all for your attention.

Hi ub4hab,

Great news that you repaired your HL2? Did you have to replace both the ksz9021rn and MagJack, or was just replacing one of those components enough to fix the problem?

100% ksz9021rn was faulty
