HIAWG participants,

After speaking with Jim Kragh and reviewing the draft document attached - in version 10 at present - I am forwarding it to the you in preparation for a joint meeting of the FIRE and HIAWG participants.

The invitation is below  for Tuesday May 17 at 1 PM ET.

I have reviewed earlier versions and recommended edits reflecting input from our HIAWG members. They we accepted.

We will cancel the Thursday meeting scheduled for May 19 as the Tuesday meeting will give us plenty of items to discuss. Our joint effort is to accomplish the goal of offering solutions to some of the most pressing current issues of engaging underserved and vulnerable populations and promoting trusted identities online.

Please take a look at the proposed "Charter like" draft document and note that Item #3  (Scope) includes a yellow highlighted paragraph, inserted in the past 48 o hours to emphasize the importance of the recently announced collaboration from the major US telecom companies to provide affordable, internet access. This new initiative will clearly help our targeted populations.

Special thanks to Noreen  and Jim  and also to Tom Jones for the suggestion of a "living" bibliography, in compiling this final draft.

Tom

Good day to all.

During the past three+ months, the FIRE-HIA WG's have been meeting at scheduled times, in addition to side-bar sessions, to draft a document that would incorporate 3 separate themes (KI mission goals/WG activities; target markets that would benefit from past FIRE-HIA valued contributions/ and a current market need). Such, when presented in draft version forms, serves as a catalyst in advancing merging the WGs into a new WG with a realistic, achievable, and beneficial target market vision and mission in mind.

A tip of the hat collectively goes to the elected individuals on each WG and to a handful of dedicated WG members who have been very loyal contributors to WG activities who provided insightful, constructive and thought-provoking ideas based on their professional 'hands-on work experience.  This volunteer exercise would not have been achieved without the time consuming, coordinating efforts of Noreen, who has threaded the needle in formulating the document in a charter 'like' format. A collective thank you Noreen for your dedicated effort and craftsmanship in organizing and presenting shared content on behalf of  KI's Leadership Council and the FIRE and HIA WG members.

With the exception of the yellow block of content with in the draft RIUP WG document below, V10, May 15, 2022, all work group members verbally approved v 9 last week.  Then the WSJ published its May 9th article on ISP's committing to providing internet service to underserved sectors and Tom J provided another bit of 'community centric' success with smartphones that addresses a market need.  These two articles underscore a possible need for an ISP identifier matrix as shared in the yellow block.

Dr Tom will forward this notice to his HIA WG so they can join FIRE's WG call this Tuesday May 17, 2022 at 1 PM EDT.  It's the goal of Tuesday's meeting to seek approval on 1) forming a new Kantara WG based on content shared and 2) to advance our efforts to the charter development phase.  Once the charter is drafted and formatted the new WG will vote and if approved, it will be sent to the Leadership Council (LC) for approval and or refinement to KI goals. The LC meets this Wednesday and this information is being shared with them and Dr Tom and I will also update them on actions and events after Tuesdays joint FIRE-HIA meeting.

Have a nice evening, your support is appreciated,

Jim Kragh

Chair, FIRE WG

From Tom J..  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7869836/  (May 15 22) a timely 'community centric' article underscoring a future  WG vision?
