I am experiencing the same issues with high CPU usage on Lion 10.7.4 and the latest Growl 1.4. I was a little discouraged when Growl went from free to paid, but I use it enough that I figured I would go ahead and buy it on the app store. That was back in Nov, 2011. Since then, I've had a lot of issues with Growl including constant update notices even though I already bought the latest. I have run the old version removal tool, re-installed from the app store, etc..For the past several weeks I have noticed high fan noise on my 13" i5 Macbook Air. I started investigating it today and realized its Growl. I can't seem to reproduce things to make it happen, but it happens almost daily. I took two screen shots attached showing processor usage high and 24.3 watts of battery usage with Growl running vs. 8.9 immediately after closing it.I hate to do it, but I think I'm just going to remove it until there is a fix. With Mt. Lion around the corner, I might not put it back on. I really liked Growl, it just seems like the past year has been full of issues.
