What version number is printed in the About tab of the Growl
preference pane?

What applications are you expecting to post Growl notifications?

Also, you should know that you emailed the list-owner address, not
the actual list address.

Woops, sorry about the wrong email. I'm on 1.1.2, and applications
that would usually give me notifications (Adium, Chax, Google
Notifier, and many more), are not showing up. They were working before
so I know it's Growl and not them.

Thanks,
-Connor

Try this:

1. Download this archive:

EnableDisableLogging.zip?
gda=KnKHF08AAABSu_u8zGb86xtVwjdKjtm0QCwNIyImXYB59xWnvRnU5GG1qiJ7UbTIup-M
2XPURDQpMbmj38So-iGqDNT4ypmN7IiDooMyQEFzyq7pLO-q6w>

2. In the Growl Preference Pane, Stop Growl.
3. Run the Enable Logging command from the archive.
4. Start Growl.
5. Do things that should lead to a notification.

If you don't want to wait around for one of your apps to notify, I
wrote a test app a long time ago that you can use:

http://boredzo.org/stuph/Simplest_Notifier_Evar-1.0.zip

Instructions: Just push the button. ☺

Sorry to bug you, but is there anything you can do? When I said I got
it to work I meant the download link, BTW :)

I'd like to get in on this conversation. I'm running 1.1.2 as well on
the latest version of Leopard.

Unfortunately I can't pinpoint the time but I think about 2 weeks ago
Growl simply stopped working. I can get it to display test messages
(from within the preference pane) but it will not communicate with any
applications. I installed a few menu items around the time that this
started to occur, so maybe there is a conflict there, but I felt that
this was unlikely. Is there a log file that I can post for you guys
to look like? I really depend on Growl for a lot of stuff!

Great app! And thanks in advance!

Try changing your default display style, then changing it back. Does
it work then?

What applications are you expecting to post notifications?

Hope this helps you guys... I had this happen too. Growl stopped
working about two or three weeks ago. I saw I was using a custom
display style called "iPhonesque" I switched back to default "smoke"
and now it works great again!

If you switch back to iPhonesque, does it still work?

Having the same problem as many it seems; I'm no longer getting
notifications. Just stopped getting notifications one day.
- running 10.5.2
- numerous apps are setup properly to send notifications / Growl is
setup to receive from various apps
- using an existing display style (smoke)
- tried Simplest Notifier Evar, nada
- have enabled logging (not sure how to retrieve the log, though)

Interesting note, though, one item does show notifications, that is
the Tweet AppleScript for sending Twitter tweets via Quicksilver.
Here's a link to that applescript: http://tinyurl.com/5629hp

I doubt that would damage any other notifications, but maybe it does.
Thought I'd throw that in.

Ideas?

As I said elsewhere in this thread, it's in the Logs folder in the
Library folder in your Home folder.

*Very* interesting. So notifications through the framework aren't
working, but notifications from AppleScript are.

Thanks so much everyone for the quick responses! Unfortunately I'm on
the windows side all morning but I'll try your suggestions when I get
back on Leopard. FYI, I am using Smoke (albeit with an altered color
scheme) and am expecting a wide variety of notifications from
applications ranging from iTunes and Hardware to Coda and Adium.

I'll update with status after I try some of your suggestions.

Hi there,

I tried a few different things to no avail.

1. Changing the Growl Notification to "more" default theme. Went from
Smoke with modded coloration to Bezel with no mod and nothing
changed. Could still get testing, but no notifications.

2. Tried enabling logging via the command above. Got the following
output: http://pastebin.com/m4489bc99

Any other thoughts, let me know. I miss me some growl... :(

Sorry; this was a bug in the scripts. I have updated them.

All ye who are having the no-notifications problem, please (re-)
download this:

EnableDisableLogging.zip?gda=7DcIMU8AAADFugTN6rPCawTArMiIzv-
J6BOd9QrxhQGV7TLqiN5DzmG1qiJ7UbTIup-M2XPURDQpMbmj38So-
iGqDNT4ypmN7IiDooMyQEFzyq7pLO-q6w&gsc=PBg1-gsAAADIKXjpFN42b5GJUlE1PF7s>

Stop Growl in the Growl preference pane, then run the Enable Logging
command, then Start Growl.

Next, you need to post at least a couple of notifications. I want you
to do this in both of two ways.

1. Simplest Notifier Evar:

http://boredzo.org/stuph/Simplest_Notifier_Evar-1.0.zip

Run the application, then click the button. You can click it multiple
times, if you want.

2. This AppleScript:

20test.zip?gda=z7NzS1IAAADFugTN6rPCawTArMiIzv-
J1ne9DD2CUOqCP6AR_aeWvGG1qiJ7UbTIup-M2XPURDQsxQ8JuJMpXZcWle1-
ngQZOTJ2dKmw49Jmg9r0ESKU0EdxBfjKiV3Zvs76YMEWYL0&gsc=LVRAbAsAAAD7GQGXth-n
XXcWBGy1J25c>

It will post its notification on launch, then quit. There's no button
to click.

**Even if the AppleScript's notification appears, that doesn't mean
the problem is fixed.** It just means that the problem is only in the
framework. (If you'd like to prove this, try the Simplest Notifier
Evar after you try the script. It probably won't work.)

Having run both tests with logging enabled, the Growl log file now
contains information that we hopefully can use to find this problem.
Please follow these steps:

1. Open this folder:

Your Home folder
Library
Logs

2. In this folder is a file named Growl.log. Hold down the Option/
Alt/⌥ key and drag this file to your Desktop.
3. Rename the file on your Desktop. Make the new name unique in some
way (e.g., by putting your name or Google Account name in it).
4. Go to https://groups.google.com/group/growldiscuss/files .
5. Sign in.
6. Click on “+ Upload file”.
7. Click on “Choose File”, and choose the renamed Growl.log file.
8. Sign out.
9. Find your file in the list, right-click on it, and choose “Copy
Link to Clipboard” or “Copy Link Location”.
10. Paste that into an email and send it here.

I think you missed the Sign Out step, as your link doesn't have the
annoying long string of characters after it, which Google Groups
requires for no good reason of people who aren't logged in (e.g., me).

Here's the correct link:

gda=EpWxyz8AAADFugTN6rPCawTArMiIzv-
JvNWJ1ydEQdiQymHchmnct2G1qiJ7UbTIup-M2XPURDRjmdSOjBRW2rYfA__ezdDt>

Also, remember that you need the < and > at the ends of it for
everyone's mail clients to automatically linkify it correctly.

Okay, here's the link to my log file:
http://tinyurl.com/44jgj2

As you can see it registers Simplest Notifier Evar but that's all.
And as expected the Apple Script notifier worked.

Thanks for your help on this. Growl is tremendous tool and making it
functional for all is a kind service to the community.

Same results as everyone else, normal notifications don't work,
Applescript did. Hope that helps :)

Same with me. A few days ago Growl stopped showing notifications for
iScrobbler and Skype. Yesterday I restarted my MacBook Pro (10.4.11)
and nothing works at all. I tried this procedure and it registers
Simplest Notifier Evar, but that's all.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. After an uninstall it works. I know
this is a question for a different discussion, but anyone know where

You need to login to ftp.logitech.com and download it.

You can also remove this file from LCC 2.4:
