to Anne Philpot, Jennifer de Alwis
I have received this email and information from Anne Philpot who has been a very helpful support to the Grand River Grannies of Brantford and District.
This appears to be an interesting and unique opportunity to support the SLF Grandmothers Campaign by purchasing an item or two from this collection should you so wish.
Please contact Anne <akph...@rogers.com> should you be interested in any of the items depicted on the drive site.
Thank you as always for your interest in this campaign for the Grandmothers of sub-Saharan Africa, and thank you Anne for this unusual opportunity,
In solidarity,
Jen

Hi Jen and Theresa - I have spoken with Theresa about this idea and she will pass it on to the appropriate person in G of S.

The back story is.... a friend of 45 years, Raymond Clark, died last year and he had lived and worked with CUSO and then his own consulting business, all over the world but mostly developing countries.

For months I helped his sister deal with his house after his death.  A number of items were chosen by family and friends and a number went to Waddington's for auction.  Andy and I filled the car with the rest and there it sat in our basement through Covid.  Raymond wasn't known for house cleaning so I would say all the items had about 15 years of dust on and in them.  When the good weather came I gradually moved items upstairs and outside for cleaning.  Some items took 3 hours, others it was a case of wicker being hosed down and then soft brush with soap and hosed down again.  Everything came to life.

I photographed everything, had help with prices on a very few items, and the link is attached below.  What I discussed with Theresa was an outdoor sale like she had in her back yard last September.  It is unknown still if this will happen but between GRG and GofS there may be interest within the grandmothers and public in some of these items which include mainly Africa and the South Pacific.  Theresa wasn't certain they would repeat the sale again this year. Theresa and I agreed to the amount of 20% of all sales would go to SLF.  The balance is going into the Clark Family estate.

Everything is now in my basement, cleaned and bubble wrapped and ready to sell.  Below is the link to see the items, a few more have sold to friends of Raymond's since this was prepared.  Still the majority of it is left.

I am also attaching a link to the book I prepared for family and friends with everyone's memories, photos and stories, including some of Raymond's own writings.  It was 86 pages, 8 and 1/2 by 11". I presold 35 to family and friends and then the link went to everyone else who didn't need yet another book in their house!  He was amazing, funny, fun loving and our family loved him and he considered our daughters his nieces.  Enjoy a browse through it.

I welcome your thoughts and feedback.  We head to our cottage on Manitoulin on Tuesday for 3 weeks.  Home for two weeks and then hopefully a month in NS to finally see our daughter and her family including two grandchildren I haven't seen in two years.  Lots of people will be away in the summer so an event somewhere in later September would be ideal for this to be a part of.  I know I shouldn't end a sentence with 'of'.....
