Hi Ritesh,
One litre of diesel gives 0.3 kWh (units). This is an average value and varies with the size of the diesel unit and its usage (load factor).
Hope this helps.

I am also having this kind of data which says it requires 18 Rs for generation of 1 Unit Through Diesel but i am not getting any technical details from where i can understand it deeply

THanks

Ritesh,

Refer to this discussion, particularly posts by TK and Prof Shelar that include attached spreadsheets on specific fuel consumption of DG sets at different loads.

Thanks,

I had studied the data of a firm which used diesel gen sets as a back up source. They values ranged from 2.7 to 3.2 units per litre. But their gen sets were all quite new and very well maintained.

Normally with a good quality diesel engine at BEP it is 0.27 ltr per unit.

In another way we put.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_efficiency

I Litre of Diesel = 38.6MJ that means 10.6KWh of Thermal Energy.

For a typical Engine efficiency of 30%, it could give Electricity at 3.18KWh/Litre

It depends on the Capacity of the diesel generator and load on the same.  The biggest variable is the load.

A larger, efficient diesel generator, say 100KW+, when loaded 80%, say 80KW - can give as high as 5 KWHr per Litre of diesel.  But, when loaded less, the efficiency goes drastically down - so, when loaded with 50KW, the same generator will generate only say 2KWHr per Litre of diesel.

Usually smaller generators are less efficient.

We operate a few 15KVA generators for telecom towers hybrid with solar.  When we load 80%, the generation is 3KWHr per Litre.  When we load less than 50%, we get only 1-1.5KWHr per Litre.

Dear Ritesh,

Simply 18 Rs is not the Answer. Calclulate the total operating cost of the genset say for 500/1000 hours include all expenses like diesel cost, B-Check kit cost, Engine oil cost,
quantity of Engine oil required, filters cost, diesel consumption per liters and Units generated per hour...etc.. these are all facts come into the picture to calculate .
pls send me your generator specification to tru...@outlook.com. will show you how to calculate.

Manjunath

Dear Thirumali,

UPL will remains constant above 35 % Load, According to you genset will consume the same Quantity of diesel with different Percentage of Load??.

Ritesh,

There is a good amount of empirical data provided here.

For theoretical calculations, you may have to go for calorific values and then multiply by efficiencies.

Practically a diesel generator consumes same fuel as full load even if loaded lesser.

Dear All ,

Normally Brand New DG Sets Loaded at 80 % and above gives

3.75 KwHr to 4.25 KwHr per liter of Diesel ..It is called SEGR

In addition to the above we have to measure more parameters

Sample report attached for Group members

Yours sincerely,

Ravi Shankar.N

Hello,

There is also an option to calculate based on the fuel consumption and hours of use. A typical specific consumption based on % loading will be as below.
Some manufacturers do publish this data in their website.

Dear Sir

Again it is depend on the efficiency of DG Sets. The best performance is 4 kWh per litre of diesel.
Thanks and regards

Dear Sir

No where in the Table mentioned as such

375KWH takes 87 litre

If we take this as Thumb rule , then

this DG set Gives 4.31 Units / Litre

I never came across on such figure in our Audit

Max achieved is 4.18 Units on Brand New DG loaded at 80 %

Regards

Yours sincerely,

Ravi Shankar.N
