Hello, guys!
I am newbie to sdr and I am using gqrx 2.2 from the ubuntu repos (rtl28232). Waiting to 2.3 ver.

The question - is there any way to organize the streaming from gqrx without gui and x server from the linux terminal? Just like the feature from v2.3 but from a console. This would be a total great feature!

Thanks!

P.S. rtl_fm -f XXX always is tuned to some other frequency than the XXX but gqrx seems to be good for this.

Taras.

Taras,

I don't think I understand what you are asking here... You say
yourself that the feature will be available in v2.3 and asking if it
is available in v2.2? Of course it is not.

However, audio can also be streamed through pulseaudio if you can
figure out how to do that.

You can not run gqrx without gui.

Yes, it is!
All you have to do is disconnect the monitor from your computer and
you will not see the GUI.

And what if I don't have gui at all? On Raspbian lite, with ssh only?

Lie down, close your eyes and concentrate on a monitor screen

concentrate more and let your mind see a GQRX GUI

practice this many times a day , and after a few days you will be able to

activate the virtual interface to your receiver,

Keep practising and soon you will hear the demodulated audio

GQRX requires a desktop, on which is placed a GUI, to control the program. No desktop, then no possibility of controlling GQRX.

You could run GQRX with a virtual desktop (controlled over SSH or some other mechanism) should one wish to. One could also run a remote server such as SpyServer. Or, one could implement one's own receiver using GNU Radio Companion (GRC), or, if very brave, GNU Radio itself.

GQRX has not been designed with an architecture that would allow decoupling the GUI from the back end.

In short, if GQRX does not suit your needs, then use something else. The authors, principally Alex Csete, are under no obligation to any of us.

Dear Robin,
Thank you for your detailed explanation.

Сontinuing the topic is it possible to autostart and autoplay GQRX with predefined settings?
Let's assume that my Raspberry rebooted. Is it possible to make a launcher which would start GQRX and automatically play and send data to UDP ?

Is there something like ./gqrx --autoplay --enable-udp --enable-rtl-sdr ?

Roma,

Maybe if you could describe - exactly - what it is you're trying to setup, we could offer advice. Trying to shoe-horn a GUI app into a CLI setup is not a good plan from the git-go. Possibly other, CLI specific tools are more suited to your needs?

Hello Tate,
I am looking for a solution to receive signal from my rtl-sdr, make FM demodulation and send it to UDP. This solution should work with Raspberry Pi, ideal without GUI.

I have already tried rtl_fm from this source https://github.com/keenerd/rtl-sdr but I found a problem with additional noise in FM demodulation. I compared two programs, rtl_fm and gqrx and found a much more clear sound with gqrx. rtl_fm has some additional noise. It is hard to explain, but I think rtl_fm has a poor dc blocking filter. Also rtl_fm doesn't have NB for static and pulse type of noises.

For this reason I choose gqrx in my setup.
I understand that gqrx is not a console utility, but in my case it's the best that I can use for my purpose.

I saw tonight that SDRangel has a CLI fork. Might be worth looking at.

Hello, Roma.

I just posted what I learned about gqrx on headless RPi 4b on a new thread:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/gqrx/ohUpyWIPeRs

The GUI is running on RPI and displaying on a Linux desktop.  I think you need this to control gqrx since it is not a console program.

In my case I am using pulseaudio to send the sound back from RPi to linux desktop as well.

I am new to gqrx so am just learning how to get good performance on the RPi in this configuration.

Regards,
RDP
