GQRX requires a desktop, on which is placed a GUI, to control the program. No desktop, then no possibility of controlling GQRX.
You could run GQRX with a virtual desktop (controlled over SSH or some other mechanism) should one wish to. One could also run a remote server such as SpyServer. Or, one could implement one's own receiver using GNU Radio Companion (GRC), or, if very brave, GNU Radio itself.
GQRX has not been designed with an architecture that would allow decoupling the GUI from the back end.
In short, if GQRX does not suit your needs, then use something else. The authors, principally Alex Csete, are under no obligation to any of us.

We are dreamers, shapers, singers and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner, holographic demons and invocations of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things. --Elric
