INTERHASH NEW ZEALAND 2024 – the latest word from down under.
Trails menu . . . https://www.interhash2024.kiwi/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Queenstown-2024-Trails-Menu-2024-01-30-v2.1.pdf
Welcome to T-Day! Elrond, leader of the elves, has been kind enough to grant us access to their advanced technology so you don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn and struggle for a seat on your favourite trails during the event.
But first a few helpful tips before giving you the key to their realm - ignore at your own risks!
Read our Trail Manual!
Our hobbits have spent countless hours doublechecking each entry for accuracy so you have all available information on the 13 Saturday trails and 12 Sunday trails (spot the two abridged versions).
https://www.interhash2024.kiwi/trails-runs/
Departure points
There are 3 departure points for trails, depending on their respective location:
* Queenstown @ Primary School à MAP
* Queenstown @ Memorial Centre à MAP
* Frankton (Called Queenstown) @ Events Centre (our evening venue) à MAP
Departure timeframe
Bus departure will be staggered, departing by waves every 15 to 30 minutes. The smaller the trail number, the earlier it will leave. Note that all buses must be back downtown by 4pm at the latest.
Shuttle service
From 9am to 11am an H3 shuttle service will be running between Queenstown and Frankton to help you get to the right departure point if your lodging is on the other side of town. Don’t leave it to the last minute or be ready to frantically search for a last-minute taxi.
Money, money, money
It’s not a rich man’$ world anymore after the Covid lockdowns and the cost-of-living crisis. Still we have decided to add surprises on selected trails but at your own costs. It could be extra beers in a pub, sausages and the like, an impromptu beer stop with a stunning view or a tourist ride down the gondola ($50). Anyway it’s always better to have money on you in case of an Orc attack forcing you to take refuge in the Green Dragon before escaping with a taxi.
Slip, slap, slop
You’ll be hashing under the hole in the ozone layer so wear sunscreen and a cap/hat at all times.
Bring your own drinking vessel!
This information was just posted by the committee on Facebook (on 19 Feb):
Just getting an event like Interhash 2024 to the ‘starting line’ has required a significant amount of negotiation with authorities and suppliers. Possibly more negotiation than any event in our Hash history. Some of the conditions were a bit hard to swallow, but ultimately they were necessary to be able to stage the event.
…
There are conditions around:
• cultural respect (including no drinking during pōwhiri),
• protection of plants and wildlife,
• littering,
• liability for damages,
• traffic management,
• strict adherence to approved trails,
• liquor license requirements - including removal for intoxication, alcohol restrictions in public places and on
buses, and
• necessity to show a wristband for access or entitlements.
We do not want any part of our event - or any trail experience - to be negatively impacted by outside authorities. The best way to achieve this is to minimise any unfavourable attention from outsiders.
We ask everyone to restrict any interaction with non-Hash governing authorities and media to the external communications sub-committee of Interhash 2024, who will be prepared with positive information about the event and de-escalation strategies in the event of any issues.
Any breaches of these protocols may risk the ongoing enjoyment of your fellow Hashers, and your possible expulsion.
So, please help us to help yourself and all your Hash friends.
