Greetings Hashers,

Wow, 2025 is starting off with a most excellent BANG!! I just returned
from Lima, Peru where the Lima H3 celebrated their 800th Hash Run. It was
an amazing event held about 3 hours south of Lima in Lunahuana, where we
enjoyed an amazing 12 km runner’s trail, and some great comradery with the
local hashers. While there, I spent a few days making my way up to Machu
Picchu to see that major world travel destination. Speak of hash travel . .
. there is a lot of good info in this month’s newsletter.

The hash event calendar is filling up very nicely this year, so let’s take
a quick look down range at September 2025: Details can be found at
https://gotothehash.net/e/hashevents25-09.html

If you care to spend a couple weeks in Western Africa with me and a rabble
of fellow hashers, you can hash in 7 countries from 15-25 Sep.

Sep 15-19
PRELUBE - Pan Africa
From Lagos to Accra in 5 days, hashing in Nigeria, Togo, and Benin.

Sep 19-21
Pan Africa Hash
Hosted by the Accra H3 in Accra, Ghana.

Sep 21-25
POSTLUBE - Pan Africa
From Accra to Freetown in 5 days, hashing in Ivory Coast, Liberia, and
Sierra Leone.

UPDATE from the HHH Museum Committee

HHHi Hashers, Firstly a BIG thank you to all who responded to our HHH
Museum Poll. This is a quick update on:

1. Responses So far we have had 473 responses (target was 500 by
Jan31st). The nice surprise is that 96% are in favour of preserving hash
history with the HHH Museum, 52% in favour of various level donations and
44% in favour of raising funds via major hash events. Also lots of helpful
comments and suggestions were provided.
2. Reason for the poll Neptunus has been building up the Museum since
2008, currently hosting Haberdashery from over 470 HHH groups around the
World. This includes the full Interhash collection since its start in 1978
and items going back as far as the Singapore 600 event in 1973. He funded
most of the costs himself, mainly building and storage rental to the tune of
over EUR 35,000 over 17 years. More recently, as stated in the poll, he
raised over EUR 10,000 with Eurohash 2023 as the main source. Because of the
size of the collection he moved after the pandemic into a large building
over four floors in Kuala Lumpur. Now being retired he can’t keep funding
this project from his own pocket so needs support until moving to its final
more cost-effective location (see below).
3. Future plans In recent years the Hash Heritage International
committee raised funds and purchased land also in Kuala Lumpur. They are
raising more funding to build additional buildings on the site and have
expressed an intent (intent at this stage but I am optimistic as it makes
sense to have the HHH Museum in the Hash Heritage site) when the planned
building of two commercial units are completed to place another building
upstairs to house the Museum. Best estimates of how much time will be needed
is circa 30 months, so the HHH Museum is seeking medium term funding to
bridge the time in between and maintain the HHH Museum in its current
location until it can be moved to the Hash Heritage site. Estimated cost
until then is 30 monthly rents of EUR 1,000, plus EUR 5,000 to 10,000 extra
for utilities and the move expected by mid to end 2027. So funding target
for the HHH Museum is EUR 35,000 plus over 30 months.
4. Next steps We will send out funding request to those who expressed a
willingness to donate, as a first step to solve initial cashflow
difficulties, then look for hash groups to raise funds via events as a
second step. We will start on February 11 which is Gispert Memorial Day, and
also announce the winner of the HHH Museum Poll on the same day. MTM, a
Canadian harriette with extensive experience in finance and audit, has taken
on the role of independent oversight to ensure donations and fundraisers
money goes where intended. She will take no prisoners in ensuring funds are
properly documented and traced. Note that she is not part of the HHH Museum
committee and will operate independently in the best interest of donors and
funders. The committee will provide her with all requested documentation in
relation to funding and spendings to ensure transparency. We are currently
updating the HHH Museum website and will very soon have the questions asked
by pollsters , (with answers already provided by Neptunus directly to those
who asked ), and answers under FAQs, lots of pictures and videos as
requested will be provided as well as other information.

Again BIG thanks to all the poll responders and On On from the HHH Museum
team.

Heads up for future Hash Travel

Hash travel continues to acquire roadblocks, as countries continue to add
new VISA/EVISA/ETA/ESTA/ADDYOUROWNNEWACCRONYM for visitors. Hashers headed
to Europe in 2025 and beyond (depending on your country of citizenship).
Starting in the summer of 2025, many of us will require to apply for an
European Travel Information and Authorisation.
https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias/who-should-apply_en

I have been informed that this requirement has already been delayed twice,
and may be again . . . but better to be forewarned and not need it, then to
be surprised at the last minute.

--------------------------------------

Here is another one . . . if traveling to the United Kingdom . . . UK now
requires travelers (with passports other than UK or Ireland) to obtain an
Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to travel. See more info and
how to apply at:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta

Validity lasts for two years and multiple entries — so you can visit as
often as you please. However, note that it will be digitally linked to your
passport — so if you get a new passport during those two years, it will no
longer be valid and you must apply for a new one. (The cost is a
non-refundable £10).

Everyone entering UK soil, even for a quick onward connection, must have an
ETA. (This is the same for any travelers transiting through the US, who need
an ESTA.) You will not be allowed through passport control to the transit
area without one. (The cost is a non-refundable £35). Why is a transit ETA
more?)

--------------------------------------
Brazil also plans (after a one year postponement), and new visa
requirement. After a couple of years of delay it appears that the new Visa
requirement for Brazil is finally happening. Starting April 10, 2025 Brazil
will resume entry visa requirements for citizens of the United States,
Australia and Canada. In 2022 Brazil announced this change, but then delayed
it multiple times. Visa will be required for those arriving by those
arriving in Brazil by air, sea, or land. Meaning even if you are on a
cruise, you will need a visa. https://www.travelcodex.com/brazil-evisa/
