Hi, I have been on mapmaker for a bit and I'd like to know how does one become a trusted reviewer?

This has been asked many times before, generally it is based on Google gathering statistics on edits and reviews in particular edits.  If you are identified by those reports, then I believe a Google employee will review your reviews and edits and then extend an invitation.  Perhaps if you want you could share a link to your profile and the community could review it and give suggestions...

I believe Google needs to contact you based on the quality of your edits and reviews.

Does anyone every read what was posted previously, often just above, or use that quaint concept called search?

Anyway, qualifications for RER should be a sticky to cut down on these noise threads.

Hi,

About "RER - Regional Expert Reviewer" » E.g. How Can Become Regional Expert Reviewer
But, if you are talking about "Google Reviewer" » http://www.google.com/about/jobs/

+1 on Rich post.

Cheers,
JPF

I also believe that anyone asking about how to become an RER should be given more scrutiny to their edits, or should not be considered for a while. This would help preserve the integrity of the system, and make it harder for someone to "ask" to be included in the program.

The inability to use the search function indicates when a candidate it not suited to the role, as searching for existing information is a key part of being a reviewer.

BTW, Brandon where are you doing your edits? Also, if you post the link to your GMM profile also I'll take a look and give you some constructive feedback. In addition to everyone elses comments making high-quality edits and making reviews with proper reference to the Help files will go along way.

Brandon, The best advice is to keep mapping, and more importantly reviewing. As an RER you responsibilities primarily focus on reviewing edits properly. You need to know how to edit, but being an RER does not affect your own edits. Also being active, and relevant in the forums could help.

There are no set numbers, but I'm sure the need for an RER in your area, along with the quality of your work will have the biggest impact. I like to think I was fast-tracked into the RER program, but the powers that be still wanted to see a good number of reviews just to see that I was accurate.

As a final note, I agree with Willy, asking to be an RER won't necessarily help you. Becoming an RER is generally something you get because your "work" has been recognized.

I'm sure as Andrew mentioned, he'll be able to offer some guidance, unfortunately I can't view your profile right now, but I'll try to look later tonight.

Good luck!
-Mike

Just to note that not everyone believes in all of the details of Google's reviewing policy.  So some of us have no interest in being an RER.

Hi Brandon!

I'm one of the RERs for Pennsylvania. Great to see your enthusiasm for Map Maker! Feel free to contact me with any questions (https://plus.google.com/111058737535113200169/posts) and join other area Map Makers in a Hangout. See here for details about the Hangout.

I'm from western Pennsylvania, but I haven't found any other western PA Map Makers, so I'm expanding to the rest of the state.

Happy mapping and welcome!

Hello, Lauren!

I was born and raised in South-Central PA, and I went to college in Western PA. I have been working on Google Map Maker in these areas, as well as in my fiancee's hometown in IA. It's so great to meet another Keystone State-er out there!

Grace and peace,

Rob L.

With all due respect to all involved, I have to object to this whole line of thinking. I've only recently started getting seriously involved in Map Maker, so the service has flagged me as suddenly making a lot of edits (like that's a bad thing) and that I have had edits rejected in the past (so what?). However, the people denying my edits are people who evidently have little to no knowledge of the area I'm working on. I on the other hand am a longtime resident and due to the nature of my full-time job, required to know the area in question intimately. So I get somebody from the other end of the continent (if not around the other side of the world) rejecting my edits because "our sources say you're wrong" (paraphrased, but the sentiment is the same). Theoretical example: The city I live near still has residential streets on its historical map data for an area that was bulldozed and paved over for fairgrounds 50+ years ago. Someone who is a "trusted expert reviewer" looking at the official city records would evidently reject an edit I made to remove said residential streets, even though they haven't existed since before Google came into being, because the city map data is considered to be "more accurate". That situation itself hasn't happened, but similar situations have, where I go in with knowledge that a particular feature is changed, and have had it vetoed because the "trusted reviewer" is looking at some data which is out of date or inaccurate.

Automatically distrusting someone who's new at this is a very wrong thing to do.

Jason, until you build your own trust level, you might do as I do and list one or two local resources who can verify the overall context of your edits.  Within that context, individual edits are more likely as they build the complete picture.  I am in Armstrong County, PA, and travel six counties nearby on business (my own) so I might be able to do drive by verification if needed.  Satellite imagery might also be used, marked up with street names listed as "removed".

Good luck, Carl
