I am editing my apartment complex (which currently has no street numbers in Google Maps, just the main road through the complex).  There are 17 buildings, each building with anywhere from 2-12 apartments in each building.  The rub is that each apartment has it's own street number - there is no building id.

For example, my building has 8 apartments and each apartment has it's own street address.  I live in 10 Smith road and by neighbors live in 12 smith road, etc.  They're not suite numbers - each one has it's street numbers.

Any suggestions as to they best way to set this up - can I create a Shape and then add sub-shapes(?) with the actual street addresses?  Thanks!

Great question Rherdman. This is what I would suggest is to follow the advice here. I will summarize that advice below:
  • Create a Shape for the apartmnet complex using "Apartment Building" as the category and selecting "boundary" as the type of shape. Put the name of the complex in the name field and use just the street name for the address.
  • Create a "Apartment Building" shape using "building" as the type of shape. Use the street number as a range if the numbers are in a range without any missing in between. Leave the names blank unless each building has its own name.
  • Add an Address/Plot for each apartment (if not already on the map) and place at the main entrance or the middle of the respective buildings.
Typically it is helpful to provide a MapMaker link to the area in question, but I can understand you may not want to since its where you live.

Hi Rherdman, Andrew

The category ‘Apartment Building’ for the buildings and ‘Address/Plot’ for each apartment fits in well.
However, please use the category ‘Housing Development’ while outlining the boundary of the apartment complex.

Thanks,
