Automatically reinvest dividends?

To the Google Finance team,

In November, Karolina from Google replied to another post that there
was no way to automatically reinvest dividends in one's Google Finance
portfolio. Is there any plan to change this? All of my investments
have the dividends automatically reinvested. So my profile in Google
Finance is not accurate, and I still need to log in to my banking
websites to see my actual balances. It would be great if I could just
recreate all my investments completely and accurately in Google
Finance.

Thank you,

-C

+1 Please make this change. Seems trivial to make this change since the system can already pay dividends to cash.

I have recently started to invest in dividend stocks and the lack of this feature makes google finance much less useful.

Hello everyone, thank you for reaching out. This feature is sadly still not available. Thank you for letting us know though, your feature requests do help us prioritize.

I would really like to see this too, using Google Finance for those with DRIP accounts is so much work constantly having to go in and manually adjust the portfolio numbers. This would be much more useful and more commonly used if this feature were available.

Thanks for the great work thus far!

I would also like to see this feature be added. Please include my request in your priority ranking.

Thanks,

JJ

Wanted to chime in with another vote for this feature. It would make portfolio tracking a lot better. Thanks!

Please add this feature. Our portfolios are inaccurate without it. How many request do you need?

I googled "portfolio tracker reinvest dividends" or some such and found some good discussion.
It seems opinions vary as to what is "best" for free.  But the mention of mint.com was pretty strong, so I made an account there.  You feed it passwords (!) and it queries all your various accounts and pulls in your data.  Worth a look maybe.

PS for staff: one more vote for this feature.

PS2:  It would be even nicer if my portfolio contents didn't disappear daily.  Can you please fix this "feature" too?

Does anyone have suggestions as to an alternative to Google Finance? Say, for example, one that has a function to reinvest dividends? The lack of that feature makes Google Finance somewhat incomplete. Thanks!

To original poster/etc-

Most of you seem to be under the false assumption that Google tracks changes to dividends correctly - or even distributes amount on a given date of record/payout correctly.. If they "reinvest/drip" for you, what happens if the dividend payout added hasn't been updated in a year by GF? Google Finance is for general info purposes only - not to keep exact track of your money. I am not completely defending them - I wish they had many things added/fixed that aren't. (And there is no excuse as to why some things are not fixed - search me in GF group for more). But....

If you want DRIPs added to GF portfolio, just do it yourself - use your broker to track exact div payouts and then add your div (not cash linked) manually when reported by your broker and you should at least be close to accurate...

As last response says:
"I can do math in my head. On paper too. I also have a calculator. Google does not have (to) hold everyone's hand."

Exactly-
Your financial data should be gathered by you and you only (namely, via your broker as they are responsible for inaccuracies - hopefully).
Read Google disclaimer again..
They are okay to view 'real time' quotes and graphs (when they are populated with accurate historical data - which isn't always the case, either see syms JOY or RTH as of today). Depending on them to gather current div amount or accurate payout dates or base an investment/spec on their data is another story...

Why they don't answer us (along these lines) themselves is another story... probably the same reasons why they cannot report accurately. Understaffed and they don't really care..  they have a disclaimer. lol

Still nothing from Google. Typical. They start a lot of things and leave them half-unfinished.

It would be much better to reflect dividend reinvestment! Hope the feature is coming soon. Without it, the performance numbers are inaccurate.

+1 - But also while manually entering Dividend reinvest as a "Buy" not cash linked, it does not accurate show this as a gain from the original purchase.  There should be an option to include a transaction as Dividend Reinvest, so that Gains/Overall Gains reflect this accurately.  For instance, I have a MUTF that I bought $5,000 worth some years ago, for three years I have Capital Gains/Dividends that I re entered as Buys - non cash linked.  Now it is worth $5,300, even though the individual share price has dropped a bit since original purchase, but shows as loss of 2.5% in overall gain.
