Hello Guys,

I have never been able to delete emails based on a subject/sender for all recipients using GAM. The message I see is below: (masked the information)

gam all users delete message query 'from:****@YYXX.com.au'

ERROR: User X...@XXX.com: unauthorized_client: Client is unauthorized to retrieve access tokens using this method.

Got 0 messages for user X...@XXX.com

ERROR: User Y...@priceline.com: unauthorized_client: Client is unauthorized to retrieve access tokens using this method.

Got 0 messages for user Y...@XXX.com

Am I doing something wrong? I followed the whole steps from the wiki.....and the service account + permission scope seems correct....

Any help is appreciated.

So when you run:

gam user X...@XXX.com check serviceaccount

where the X...@XXX.com is the same user you are seeing the error for, do you get all PASS?

Hello, Jay,

I thought I only need to set up my own service account as a super admin to query and delete everyone's email? Do I actually need to create a service account for everyone and grant all scope of all the accounts created?

Tony,

You only need one service account, the command Jay gave you is to test whether you set it up correctly.

What are the results of: gam user X...@XXX.com check serviceaccount

Tony,

Sorry about the typo.
Try these; make sure to use the values from your first message.
gam user x...@xxx.com show gmailprofile
gam user y...@priceline.com show gmailprofile

If those work, then try:
gam user x...@xxx.com  delete message query 'from:****@YYXX.com.au'
gam user y...@priceline.com  delete message query 'from:****@YYXX.com.au'

Hi Ross,

I got this:

gam user X...@XXX.com delete message query 'from:****@YYXX.com.au'

Searching messages for X...@XXX.com

Got 1 messages for user X...@XXX.com

would try to delete 1 messages for user X...@XXX.com (max 1)

also this:

gam user X...@XXX.com delete message query 'from:****@YYXX.com.au' doit

Searching messages for X...@XXX.com

Got 1 messages for user X...@XXX.com

delete 1 messages

What if I want it to do it to all users? Do I use gam all users instead?

Thanks

Tony

As a safety precaution, GAM will refuse to do anything if the query matches more than a single email message. To delete more than 1 email per user use the "maxtomodify" argument:

gam user <myaccount>@XXX.com delete message query 'from:X...@gmail.com' doit maxtomodify 5

that would work for any user with 5 or less matching emails.

Tony,

There are two safeguards: doit and maxtodelete.

gam all users delete message query 'from:X...@gmail.com' doit maxtodelete <NumberHere>

You can preview like this.
gam all users delete message query 'from:X...@gmail.com' doit maxtodelete 0
If everything looks good, then do this where <Number> is the largest value "messages to be deleted is <Number>" from the preview.
gam all users delete message query 'from:X...@gmail.com' doit maxtodelete <Number>

very sorry about the spam....

What if I want to query just the MessageID using the know from: and subject:? and get a list of people who received it? Can I do it via GAM? or is it something from API calls (python?...if you by any chance know the reference from Google API for that I will be very thankful since I have been searching forever about the right gmail API and still haven't found one working with email operations.....)

THanks again

Tony,

Here's the documentation on Gmail queries: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7190
Specifically: Example: rfc822msgid:2005...@example.com

My advanced Gam (https://github.com/taers232c/GAMADV-X) has more message handling operations.
