ANR because of AdMob (com.google.android.gms.policy_ads_fdr_dynamite)

I see lots of ANRs because of AdMob (com.google.android.gms.policy_ads_fdr_dynamite) in Google Play Console. The AdMob version is com.google.firebase:firebase-ads:17.1.3.

Is there anything I can do to resolve or work around this issue? Thanks.

When will this issue be fixed? We are still having the issue in GoogleMobileAds-v5.4.0 it seems to be mostly affecting Android 8.1

It is putting our games in bad behavior thresholds!

The latest AdMob Plugin GoogleMobileAds-v5.4.0 has serious stability issues and it is not just Android 8.1. We have an update rolling out at 50% and it is already in the bad behavior threshold because of AdMob ANR's and Crashes. (We deployed the update in an AAB using Unity 2020.1.15f1.)


We can almost guarantee that everyone else using GoogleMobileAds-v5.4.0 is having these crashes and ANR as we are not doing anything special. We exclusively serve Google Ads, other developers who mediate between different ad networks may not be experiencing the bad behavior threshold as they don't serve as many Google ads per session.

We have been using the AdMob plugin since 2013 and have 50 to 100k DAU, but the year 2020 there seems to be serious quality control issues with the plugin.


Attached are screenshots of all of the errors that GoogleMobileAds-v5.4.0 is generating.

Can this please be made a priority?

We would like to have a record of the crashes so that anyone who has information can come forth. Thank you for the response back. I work along with Aryeh, and I know that we have already spoken about this. We would need the sample app to review, as well as you can definitely send us a screencast of you showing the issue. The biggest thing that we would need is something that shows what is causing the issue. You can send it to us privately via "Reply to author". But we will need more than just the crash reports, we will need something technical that we can look at. Usually the sample app is what we use to be able to look at the code implementation.

We've managed to lower ANR below the threshold through updating Unity and Admob, but still, we have a lot of Admob-produced ANRs.

And it likely negatively impacts user experience and apps performance in the store.

Please take a look at ANRs by the country breakdown. There are no Admob ads in russia due to sanctions, as a result, ANR rate is very low. There can't be a better indication that Admob is still causing a lot of issues, and you SHOULD cooperate with Google Play team in order to omit these ANRs from counting towards an app ANR rate.
