Line Breaks?

When I send out emails via GMail, they always show up at the
recipents' with short line length (forced line breaks after, say, 80
characters).

Is that a Gmail "feature" and if so, how can I switch it off? I don't
want to force any line breaks on people -- their MUAs will do so just
fine when they see fit.

Thanks!

I'm not positive on this, but if I think if you send in HTML (rich
text) instead of plain text it won't do this automatically. The link
to switch is just above the compose box.

Actually, I have the opposite impression: It seems to do that with
HTML only for me -- if I send a plain text message, it does not seem
to add forced line breaks.

Very weird. Does that have something to do with the format=flowed
issue pointed out in http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Users/browse_thread/thread/fc9921172cd7e739
?

I get the same, and it's really annoying me. Any help on this would be
very gratefully received, I can't see any obvious options for it in
the available menus. I'm using text-only messages, not HTML.

GMail inserts line breaks in plain-text messages at roughly 74
characters. Either compose in Rich formatting, use an off-line
client, or accept it, as that is actually part of the RFC I believe.

Here's what worked for me in "New Compose"-
I un-checked "Plain Text Mode" in the pop-up selection from arrow-in-lower-right of compose box...I wonder if this post will be truncated/auto-broken! :-) here goes....
