I have GPS data from collared animals. Each record includes the date, time, animal ID, longitude, latitude. The original dataset includes a GPS point of every hour, in some cases, there are several day-long gaps in data transmitting. I run KDE and it worked well.  For comparison, I need to estimate the home range by using Adaptive Local Convex Hull Polygon. I have been searching for a methods and I found only in R, which I cannot use. Is there some way how to calculate it in QGIS 2.18.12, I suppose that function Convex hull is for Minimum Convex Polygon (MCP).

Thank you,
Katerina

HI Katrina,

Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, there are no options for generating
Adaptive Local Convex Hull Polygons in QGIS, or in other GIS software.

Can I ask what is preventing you from doing it in R? Is it just a matter
that you are not an R user? Or is it that you are having problems
transferring your data between QGIS and R so you can analyse it with the
tools available in R?

If t is either of the last two options, let me know as I'm currently
working on a workbook to help people learn how to use QGIS and R
together to run home range analyses like this, and I may be able to help
out with some advice on how best to do this (and without getting too
bogged down with having to learn R).

All the best,

Colin

Dear Colin,

thank you for your reply and sorry for my silence. A few days after your answer I was given help from my university. Now I have a script in R for AKDE home range estimation, which works very well. Still, I cannot work with R and your book would be a very valuable tool for me.

I will be happy to read it when you finish it!

Best regards,
Kateřina
