Hi guys!
Currently, I'm not in Rio, therefore I can not give you an actual report about the "occupy Rio" situation. Nevertheless, I've read about it in blogs and also at their own website (
http://ocupario.org/). They're a extension of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement (
http://occupywallst.org/), and they do peaceful demonstrations against some government issues, as well, they don't seem to be radicals. According to them, they are proposing a critical rupture with the financial system, and they look towards giving value to the individual political participation. They ask for a review of the public procedures and a smart investment in the public education. They put themselves as a free nonpartisan group with no leaders, where everybody is very welcome.
I think they're "reachable" to talk about any kind of help to their project, and now they're planning a big manifestation with people from occupy’s movements from the whole world during people’s Summit and Rio 20, and they seem totally focused in this plan.
They have almost 2.700 members at their facebook's page, and they're not only in rio, but also in São Paulo and other cities around the world. Some friends were telling me that they are very open to talk, and they could help us, as well they told me that they did a nice job last year, but that it was interrupted by police activities, where they did not reacted, what brought even more credibility to their work.
I'm still waiting to talk with some other friends that live in Rio, and which could give me a "local report" about the movement....
does anyone know something else?
best regards,
Flávio Bezerra
