I bought my copy at half-priced books.

The "Dome Cookbook of Geodesic Geometry" by David Kruschke is no longer available at Half Priced Books, or any other source I can find on the web, including Amazon.

From what I understand, this book is the information source for Mr. Kruschke's flat bottom 3v dome, as well as other geodesic structures with a flat bottom that he designed.

It would really help all of us if someone would scan this book into a PDF form, to preserve it for the future, much like DomeBook2  by Lloyd Kahn has been preserved in electronic format.

It appears the "Dome Cookbook of Geodesic Geometry" is no longer under copyright protection, as it was copyrighted in 1975.

Under US Copyright law, any work copyrighted before 1978 has a duration of 28 years - meaning that the 1975 copyright expired in 2003.

And it does not show up on the US Patent and Trade Office Copyright database as being protected by a copyright:

If I knew Mr. Kruschke or his family, I would contact them for their input.  But at this point, I cannot see how they would be offended.

If this document is never scanned into electronic format, the existing paper copies will someday be lost or destroyed, and the genius of David Kruschke will be forgotten.

If this document is put into electronic format, and put on the internet, it could last for a very long time.

Mr. Kruschke has a very good solution for building a 3v dome.  Many dome manufacturers are using this information, with very little credit given to David Kruschke.

I think it would be an honor to Mr. Kruschke to do this for him.  But if someone could contact him or his family first and receive their blessing for this project, that would be perfect.

So I misspoke. I got a different book about geodesic domes at half price books. I just called my library they're looking into doing an interlibrary loan for a copy of the book that is in iowa. I'll let you know if I get my hands on it. Perhaps I can take pictures of the book or a particular section that you're interested in and post them.

Are you looking for confirmation of Krushke's chord factors?

Thanks, Blair - but I already have the chord factors.

I can go to any of the Kruschke dome calculators on the web, put a "1" or "100" in the radius, and the calculator will give me the chord factors.

What I really want are Mr. Kruschke's ideas - and how he came up with his solutions. The math behind it, etc.

It is like reading DomeBook 2, as it also has a page on chord factors, but there is a lot of other "nuggets" of information  that Lloyd Kahn gives us as well.

I am always interested in other people's ideas.  Kruschke appears to be a real problem solver in this area.

And I would like to know more about David Kruschke - all I have is a name.  I understand he was a school teacher.  That's about it.

So having a copy of "Dome Cookbook of Geodesic Geometry" - that is what I want.  Probably other people want the same thing.

Thanks for your response.

John;

I'm not certain I can send an attachment to this group, but attached is a scan of The Dome Cookbook of Geodesic Geometry by David Kruschke.
There are a small number of highlighter marks in the book that make some of the writing illegible.

Hi John,
Here's a link to an earlier discussion of truncatable domes, in early May 2013, showing the derivation of the 3v icosa chord factors first published by David Kruschke  in 1972. The Excel spreadsheet attached to that discussion uses mostly spherical trigonometry.
Here's another link to a Geodesic Help discussion, on Dec. 7, 2009. It has to do with the "level base" problem and describes David Kruschke's contribution.

Dear All
I enclose as a zip file all the 46 pages of the Krusche's Book after processing them in a free software called Scan Tailor.
Most of the words can easily be read thanks to the painstaking effort of Kursche.
Shall I type in the text along with the figures from the Cook Book?

Regards

Ashok
