Hi,

I’m building a frame right now for a client who wants to use Tubus lowriders.

It would be much appreciated if you could tell me about the distance for the "middle" fork eyelets from the rear eyelet.

I already know that many builders use 165mm as a standard for 700c forks but just to be sure...

Is this measurement standard or it depends from the model/make of the lowrider/rack? Also I would like to know if it is important

to have eyelets in the “middle” of the fork, inside and outside of the fork blades or is it ok to have only in the outside.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Dimitris Adamopoulos

Just put some in a fork today. Trusted my 6.5" (165mm) standard for a
Tubus rack.

There's a diagram on this page (http://www.thetouringstore.com/TUBUS/Tara/TARA%20PAGE.htm) showing a range of 160mm to 170mm (~6.5in)

I am pretty sure that they can vary from rack to rack.  At least to a certain extent.  For example, I recently built a fork for a Tubus Nova rack and the blade bosses were 182mm up from the lower drop eyelet. However, a while back I did a fork for a Tubus Duo and I seem to recall that those were at 165 (although  not totally sure). Tubus has Dimensional drawings on their website and so you can always make a patern if you need to.

Wow! Thank you all for your almost instant replies! Dave, I saw the dimensional drawings on Tubus site but I wanted to be sure about it.... Better safe that sorry.... I'm going to braze the eyelets at 165mm (for Tubus Duo) but next time I will try to have the rack in my bench from the start of the building process.
Thanks again for your help!!

Cool. The 165 number will likely work for most of the racks for the
average application. The Nova has a couple of mounting point options
and the 182 number was what it took to get the rack mounted so that the
horizontal parts were dead horizontal and the vertical parts were
straight up vertical on the particular fork and bike that I was working
on at the time. Things like whether the fork is curved or straight
bladed, the rake, the bike's head tube angle, & etc. can all affect that
(the vertical and horizontal layout), etc.

165mm with a M5 boss usually works fine for a Tara etc. The Duo however
is a different beast, it's best to have it on hand to make sure it will
sit level as it doesn't have much adjustment and looks ugly pointing
down. And it needs bosses on the inside too

Hi Dimitris,

I usually build for the Tubus Tara.
On a 700c / high rake (56mm) fork I use the rear dropout eyelet (the
front one would put the rack too much forward) and an H2O eyelet at
175mm. Here's an example:

Thank you all for your help! Dave, Marten, Francois thanks for the information! I'll let you know about the result when the rack is mounted. Thanks.

I myself messed up going for 165 mm on my own fork, without having an actual lowrider to use for fitting. Taking the big fork trail/axle offset into account, the mounts/eyelets should have been a bit different, especially the upper one that to start with definitely should have been on the other side of the fork... the rack fits, sort of, but it's not really usable since it's tilted backwards.
