It seems Wade has, at least temporarily, thrown in the towel on Cycle Design.  Two of his products have been go-to staples for me, so I'll looking for those with experience to recommend alternatives.

My #1 favorite silver brazing flux is Cycle Design Stainless Light Flux.  It seems to have great working time at temp, and "it just works".  For those that know their fluxes, what's your favorite?  I used Gasflux Type U for years before Stainless Light Flux came along, so that's my other reference point.  I hope there's something better than Type U!

Likewise, FilletPro was great stuff for all kinds of work.  What are the alternatives for fillet-thickness silver brazing fillers?

Thanks in advance!

I think the Stainless flux was made by Superior Flux Co. They might have an equivalent??? They promote one in particular but I’m uncertain if it’s the same flux. I just got everything from Wade.

Type G flux from Gas Flux has some similar characteristics.  Its upper temperature range is 1700º like Stainless Light.  Most white fluxes stop at 1600º  I think it has superior surface cleaning ability to Type U. Gas Lux recommended it to me many years ago for doing stainless.  I get it directly from Gas Flux because I have an account.  They have an online retail store I believe for those that don't have an account.  I buy my 56% silver from them as well.

Looking back through my emails, in 2013 I joined a group of framebuilders in the UK to form a buyers group to order Brazetec 6009 rods from Germany as a Fillet Pro alternative. We had to order minimum 1kg, which at the time was £380.

Not sure if this will be viable for US builders.

It sounds like Chris at First Hand (the new Reynolds  Dist) is looking into supply of some Cycle Design products.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there has been any progress on possible re-introduction of Cycle Design fluxes?

I have one jar of System 48 left and most of it has solidified unfortunately, is there any effective way of reconstituting back into a paste while retaining its integrity?

Cheers,
Locky

Hi Folks, it's Wade from Cycle Design.  You can get Stainless Light Flux from Superior Flux, or for larger quantities get it directly from me.
No one from Reynolds or anyone else has contacted me about proving our products.
As of now David Bohm of Bohemian is the only Authorized reseller. I'm not sure of his stock, but he can order.

Thank you,
Wade Barocsi

Hi Wade, nice to hear from you.  Could you enlighten us with the number or name that Superior Flux uses for the former Stainless Light?  Since it doesn’t appear on their website under that name…

While I preferred Cycle Design stainless light flux, I find that Gasflux Type G works well for stainless too.  It is what they recommended to me decades ago when I asked about brazing stainless.  I use it for all my brazing. stainless or not.    It has a higher temperature range than Type U and other white fluxes.
Highly recommended for those with less brazing experience,  It does require a different technique to dry the flux to stay on the work when beginning.

I also use 38% silver instead of Fillet Pro now that it is no longer available.  BTW, when turning dried out flux into a paste again, it is best to use distilled water instead of tap water.  I use a spritz bottle - like what is used to wet flower blossoms or punish a naughty cat.  That way just a gentle amount of water is added.  When I wasn't watching my students, they would try to get the right amount out of a faucet into their flux tub and almost every time get too much.

I seem to recall that Doug used that spritzing type bottle on students if we weren't using the torch correctly!
