Original Mafac Criterium (cantilever) brake studs are made from pressed steel sheet.

I learned the hard way that the joints are weak and distort during hard braking.

Any recommendations about how to strengthen the joints?

I will try to add braze to the seams inside and out , but since they are already brazed to the frame, that won’t be easy.

What studs should I try on the next frame?

Amir, all,
Mafac canti bosses have been used for decades by some of the best framebuilders for road  mountain bikes and tandems.
If care is taken these things are rock solid and trouble free.

Thorough brazing is essential. When I braze them on, I add some filler to the inside for added safety.
The posts also need to be brazed to the square "box" section. Adding an extra bit of brass on the inside where the post base sticks through is always a good idea.
