Hi all,
I need some help from the guys who have some experience with T47:
I have just shipped a frame to customer, which has a 68mm T47 bottom
bracket. I also provided him a White Industries BB with external
bearings.
Now he's trying to install a road PF30 SRAM crankset (I think it's Red
stuff) and he tells me that the spindle length of the crankset is too
short to be able to install it correctly.
From what I could find, a PF30 road crankset usually requires 86.5 BB +
~3mm for the pressfit edge = ~89.5mm.
With the T47, it looks like we have 68mm for the BB + 2 x ~15mm of
external bearings = 98mm !

Is there a different, narrower bottom bracket that would fit ?

Thanks for your help !!!
Francois

Yep, but I guess in that case I will need something like 8mm of spacers
on the crank axle... I don't know where I missed something, but I'm
surprised there's not a cleaner solution.

Hi Francois,

See the crank user manual for SRAM cranks, which describes spacer configurations for SRAM road cranks and BB types.

The spacer/Preload Adjuster kits generally come with the cranksets, but also can be sourced separately if necessary.

SRAM road will only work with external bearings if it is GXP.  All 30mm spindle cranks on the road require internal bearings.  The new DUB cranks on the mtb side have resolved the 30mm spindle issue.  So a 73/92 system will work with a DUB crank unlike before it required an internal bearing 73 for 30mm and external bearing worked in 74 with GXP only.  I suspect the DUB will find its way to the road thing as well but it is not there yet.  You sent the wrong BB for the 30mm spindle road crank.  Also unlike what Wheels is selling there is a subtle difference between internal bearing cups from 68/73 and 86/92.  They work in each other but White Industries has a specific cup for each application.

Here is a simplified version of a compatibility chart that we made when this all started.  Keep in mind this is from 2015 so some things have changed but the idea is the same.
