If you are doing this for your own use, I’ll share my 2 cents.

I no longer use the S&S nut when retro-fitting a frame. I set my fixture up with the un-cut frame and then use it to hold alignment when installing. The precision of the couplers are such that you know when they are perfectly aligned. I find it easier to the tack of them in due to less of a heat sink with no nut. I then finish the work outside of the fixture, if that makes sense. I also do not use the little SS discs that seal the tube. I like to keep it all open and accessible. The alignment is perfect due to the jig/fixture being set with the original frame. I have been doing it that way for over 15 years, (over 20 years as an S& S builder) as the nut makes  it more cumbersome IMHO.

I don't have builders liability insurance. The couplers are recycled, I'm using them on an electric tandem bike for my wife and I (we have life insurance).

I would like to avoid brazing using the actual couplers. I will probably turn my own set of temporary nuts on my lathe.

Hi Fernando,

The brazing nuts are available from S&S. However, they will not sell to you unless you provide them with some information about your business, including evidence of liability insurance coverage.

Hi everyone. I am looking for the nuts that are used to temporarily connect S & S couplers while brazing/soldering. I recycled a set of couplers out of an old frame. Looking for the nuts that fit 1/8” and 1 1/4” S &S couplers.

If you have a set and don't need them anymore, please let me know!

Awesomeness!  It never occurred to me that it can be done without the nut.  I will set it up in the jig and give it a go.  Thanks!
