Hey gang!

I have a fellow asking about having a rear disc brake added to an older Ryan recumbent tandem.  Steel frame, but odd stay configuration (it is a recumbent after all).  Photo attached.  The bike currently has a Nexus hub with roller brake but he wants to change to an Alfine with disc.

Any advice or suggestions, especially as to where I should look for a fitting to braze on there?

Thanks!

Tim

The eyelets on the chain and seatstays in this picture are from a Bike Friday tandem that I owned almost 20 years ago.  Those eyelets are M6 and 51mm apart (ISO spacing) and a Hope caliper did fit there:

I switched the bike to a touring setup, so that is why it has an Arai drum brake in that photo.

It looks like a similar configuration may just work on that recumbent, you could experiment with it.  Otherwise you should be able to put the caliper above the chainstay as is common on most mountain bikes.  You might need to get creative with rack mounting.
