Hey all,

I am looking to build a front loading tricycle ( like a bicycle hot dog cart ) for a local community gardens project.  So far all of my purchases have been through nova and buying "kits" or individual tubes.  are there any resources for buying non specific lengths of tube?

thanks!
ryan

Ryan,

I've never built a carho bike or a trike but if I were I would probably do my first one with straight gauge 4130 tubes from mcmaster-carr. They come in all sorts of wall thickness and in 6ft lengths. Also, nova sells straight gauge steel tubes but in fewer wall thickness and max length is 3foot.

You're in Troy, NY right? No awesome steel manufacturers up there? Would ve sweet to find some place local.and save money on shipping. Glad to see people building bikes in the capital district. Maybe next time I come up to lansingburgh I could come see your shop.

Best,

Hans

There's also Online Metals. They offer 4130 down to .035" wall thickness.

We had an interesting veggie delivery trike designed and built around a galvanized tub made by a local (Ft. Collins, CO) builder. Good luck with yours!

Online Metals also stocks 4130 down to .035" wall thickness.

On a related note: A local (Ft. Collins, CO) builder made an inexpensive veggie delivery trike around a galvanized tub.

Acel now has straight gauge seamless aircraft 4130 in common diameters
and a variety of wall thicknesses in stock.
We can also cut it to your desired length.

Wade: Is there a price list of what Acel offers, what the tube specs are, and how much they cost?

The latest news blog is quite cryptic:
http://www.aceltube.com/category/lates-news/

I assume that the website is still under development.

I see they also have a terrific price on “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

Only $0.04, marked down from $0.15.  Free shipping, and it’s in stock!

http://www.connecticutwebsites.com/acel/products-page/

I’d jump on it at that price, but I’m well-stocked with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet at the moment.

Kidding aside, I think it means those pages are not quite open for business yet.

Hi Guys,
The page on Connecticutwebsites is a prototype site, for testing.
Any information can be assumed to be false, wrong or incomplete! All
real information will be on www.aceltube.com
We are a bit understaffed at the moment, and it is hard to get
everything done, plus develop the website at the same time, but we are
working hard to get it done.
Once we have our steel tubing available, and we get some cash flow
going, we'll be able to bring on additional help.
Our pre-production work has been going rather well, hopefully that
trend continues.

David (Bohm) is working with the web guy to get information up ASAP.
The rest of us have been working on tube production. We worked past 9
last night to get this weeks mandrels in by tomorrow's deadline.

For straight gauge we carry US made seamless Mil-spec 6736 in
normalized condition.

Pricing depends on quantity and diameter, but we are way lower than
Amazon, MSC and McMaster.
Custom lengths are fine.

Right now we have:
.375 x .028
.425 x .028
.625 x .028, .035
1.0 x .035, .045
1.125 x .035, .049
1.250 x .035, .065
1.375 x .035
1.5 x .035
1.625 x .049
1.750x .035
Other sized are added regularly.

Plus all money from tubing and Cycle Design product sales goes toward
making Custom frame tubes right here in the US.
It takes over $1000. for each new tube to be developed, and small
orders really help.

Thank you all for your support!

Hi Wade,

Is Acel ready to start taking orders? Can we email an order to you,
or is there some other way?

Thanks,
Jim

Wade, you could start a blog, it's easy and free. You could just
throw up a page with your inventory on it, and only update it when
inventory changes. That would help us potential customers know what you
have, and maybe get a bit of cash rolling in.

Hi Wade,

I know ACEL has a good selection of aluminum tubes ready to go. Is
there a PDF catalog or price list available for these items?

I'm really excited to check out what you guys have to offer, and the
willingness to work with small fish like myself is greatly
appreciated. I imagine the HSLA tubes will sell like hotcakes when
they're ready to ship.

Best
Michael
