Although I'm now retired, the area in question is being used as the contractor's staging area.  This is the same area used for the first phase of the Watertown Riverfront Park project.  The area will be restored as it was for Phase 1.
It's great to see the project finally moving forward.  Kudus to Dan Driscoll, DCR's project manager, for ensuring it did!

I went to the DCR meeting, which I thought was good, but I came away without finding out what’s going on in the fenced-in and covered-up area in the grassy area on the river side of Charles River Rd between Irving St and Priest Rd – what’s going on behind the curtain? Anybody know? Re-grading?

That’s the construction staging ground, where the equipment and materials
(including large rocks) are being kept.

group. They should have the password to manage it.

Executive Director and the Board Co-Presidents are David Siegel and Darshna
Varia. I believe Darshna may know something about this group.

Thanks for weighing in, Rick.  Hope you are enjoying retirement (despite all the restrictions on things retirees should be able to do -- like travel).
I hope this group can stay active.  Will look to see if I can figure out who's in charge of the group.

Thanks for your message, Nancy!  Glad to see this email listserver is re-activating.

A month or so ago there was an item in the news that DCR had plans to replace a decades-old, very active community garden on the Brighton/Allston side of the river with a grassy park. Does anyone know if that is part of the same project impacting Watertown?

No, that (very controversial!) DCR project is not connected with the Watertown riverfront park project that is going on now. I have no idea what is happening with the one across the river.

Are there two Friends of the Riverfront groups?

There’s the “old” google group that goes back to the planning for the River project that includes the braille trail, and a new Outlook group recently started following the DCR informational meeting about Phase II of the project (between Perkins Hill and North Beacon). If there are two groups, wouldn’t it make sense to consolidate into one?
