Hi guys,

I have finished the hardware setup and the wheels can rotate when I'm using the Logitech Joypad.
However, the servo is not responding and I think my hardware connection (PPM port to servo) is right. The servo (Traxxas 2056) should also be fine because I tested it before.

The joypad .yaml file is the default btw.

Any suggestions will be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

Best,
Yunbo

btw guys, when I move the right stick on the joypad and type :
rostopic echo /vesc/commands/servo/position

I can do see the changes of the data, while the servo is still not responding.

Best,
Yunbo

Hello!

Have you flashed VESC to support steering? Also, I believe that it has to be somehow tuned in the VESC tool.

J.

hi Jaroslav,

Thanks so much for your help. Yes, I have flashed with the lasted firmware but I updated to the latest version.

Is this can be the problem?

Well it depends on the selected firmware. It really needs to be the `_servoout` version. (As in the default configuration, the 3pin connector is used for controlling the motor from an outside source.) And I can't see this firmware in the latest version.
However, you can compile it yourself. The difference should be only one macro somewhere in a configuration file.

J.

Hi Jaroslav,

I think I have found out the reason. It's the vesc tool problem.
Previously I flashed the vesc with the latest vesc tool and it seems there is no ppm option in the left.
Then I went back to v2.03 and there is another problem. I can't find the .bin file shown on the website.

I think this is the problem. Do you have this .bin file?

Thanks so much for the help. I think this can be the last question on the hardware.

Best,
Yunbo

Hello,
so it took me a while investigating the firmware repository, but I have finally found that! Since spring 2021, there are no `servoout` firmwares. The functionality is already in the default firmware, you just have to enable it in App Settings > PPM.

J.

Hi,

May I know what did you do to solve the steering issue? This is my ppm settings.
