My only thoughts on this are the unlikely, which include, would this technique, once perfected detect your Penrose-ian white holes? Could a de-rated device detect the footprint of a Dyson Sphere?

A derated version would only detect the presence of gullible politicians and loose funds.
A Dyson sphere would probably not be detected with this kind of sensor unless there is a total catastrophic failure. But probably not then either, too small amounts of energy release. Compared to black hole shenanigans at least.
