I agree with Thomas Friedman, environmentalists are not serious people.

I agree, unless we are able to make a self-sufficient colony on Mars, but today we don't even have the ability to make a self-sufficient colony in Antarctica, and that's a far far more benign environment than Mars is. It makes no sense to me to spend $1 trillion to send somebody to Mars and then spend another three or 4 trillion to bring him back. It will be time to send an astronaut to Mars when it's not a suicide mission even though he only has a one-way ticket.

Yah, sure. IF this study proves accurate, and  we'd also need storage, as in batteries. Musk's PowerWall for charging up his Tesla's is the model. In Australia, they are big on powering homes there via solar panels as well. There is also the development by British Universities perfection of the pervoskite solar cell back in 2018, aka Oxford Solar.
