Good morning ECO and SBS community,

We are so excited to come together as a community to care for the Eggleston Community Orchard! Many of our SBS families are available to work in the garden this Monday and next weekend, so we have come up with two time frames during which Hannah, Shannon and/or Isis will be there to guide us in caring for our garden.

Monday October 8th 12:30-3:30
Saturday October  13th 10-1

Please let us know if you are able to make it to either of these dates. If neither of these days will work, we can coordinate other times for smaller groups to come together.

Warmly,

Isis and Shannon

Hi Isis and crew,
I'm adding on to this email chain a few other folks who have been long involved with ECO, and who are also newer to the space for their input.

Introducing Karsten (neighbor and host of JP Porchfest at the orchard this year), Orion (founding volunteer), Denise (neighbor and interested in TLC in the space), Alvin (passionate long-time gardening volunteer). There are a couple of other folks who are engaged by text, but hopefully this is a good start.

Thank you for bringing this energy into the space. Excited for what it will bring!
Hannah

Hello!

I had a lovely meeting with Hannah this morning and would like to share with you the information she shared with me (thank you Hannah!) and get us organized for our next steps.

As you know Eggleston Community Garden is a magical space in need of some TLC. There have been many people invested in the past, but now, due to people moving and/or stepping away, there are only 4 people involved on a regular basis. As a result, our Stony Brook School community is welcome and needed to help in caring for this space. The plot that is designated to SBS is for us to care for, and we are welcome to use and help care for the rest of the space as well.

I will be emailing our school community in the next few days to inform and invite anyone interested in helping to join us. We need to make sure the space is safe for our children to visit, help with gardening and play.

For now, there are short term and long term jobs to tackle

Short term
Clear our plot and add soil or peat
Weed the rest of the garden and prepare for the cold months
Trim the large grape vine around the entrance
Clean our garbage and broken debris

Sooner than later
Help Hannah with making the Pizza oven
Add a container/trunk to store toys and soil
Make a surface to serve as a mud kitchen

long term...
We need to dream this up :)

This is an opportunity for our school to engage as a community and to involve our children as citizens of this neighborhood and town!

So, for now, lets please come up with a day that a small group can come together to begin weeding and cleaning.

Let me know your thoughts.

Warmly,

Isis
