Hi!

I'm using E-Prime 2.0 professional (builder version) and have tried to set up an experiment using both sound and text stimuli at the same time.
To do so I've used the Slide function, including a written sentence and a sound file containing the same sentence (spoken) that should be presented simultaneously. I've also added a SoundIn for recording the answers.

The problem lies within the SounOut option. When I try to run the experiment I get the following errors:

The sound files are .mp3, could that be the problem? Or is there anything else I should have done?

Hopefully someone can help me!

Cheers,
Ingeborg

Ingeborg,

Here is what PST says about E-Prime 2 at
https://www.pstnet.com/eprimecompare.cfm : "Play several different
audio formats, including MP3 and WMA" (I had to search pretty hard to
find that, did not find it in the obvious places).

If I had to troubleshoot this, I would try using some example .wav files
instead of .mp3 to see if that made a difference (note that the SoundRT
example that comes with E-Prime still uses .wav files). I would also
eliminate the SlideSoundIn for testing. Actually, I would probably
start with the SoundRT example, which I know works, and then
incrementally build that up toward my experiment program, testing it at
each step along the way until I could see where it breaks.

Good luck!

Oh, you might also try Codec Config with your .mp3 files. If .mp3 is
just a container format, so that it might use a variety of audio codecs,
then you would still have to have the proper codecs installed &
configured for use with E-Prime.

Thanks, David, I will try this first.

I remember having a similar issue in PsychoPy some time back, where, dispite the fact that it is supposed to play different kind of sound formats, only .ogg worked in the end.

I will let you know if this works.

Thanks, David. Changing to .wav worked, and I also looked through the SoundRT and modeled my own experiment after that. It works quite well now!
