DAVIS ID-0 Failed to open device, no matching device could be found or opened

When I open DV and connect davis346 to my desktop computer(Ubuntu18.04) as I normally did on my macbook and thinkpad( Ubuntu18.04 and win10), the ERROR below is printed in the runtime log:

INFO: DAVIS ID-0 Failed to open candidate USB device. This usually happens due to permissions or driver issues, or because the device is already in use by another running program. Trying next device.

CRITICAL: DAVIS ID-0 Failed to open device, no matching device could be found or opened.

ERROR: capture moduleInit(): 'std::runtime_error :: Failed to open USB device, id=0, type=4, busNumber=0, devAddress=0, serialNumber=INVALID_SERIAL.', disabling module.

I find this is familiar with the topic, but I don't find the useful solution and the newer release(1.5.0-1~bionic) don't fix this problem.

Maybe there is some solution about setting the  serialNumber? Now the main ERROR shows  "serialNumber=INVALID_SERIAL".

Hello

I'm sorry for the trouble with your camera. It's very unusual that the camera is detected on Win and Mac but not on linux. Do you maybe have another linux computer on which you could test the camera? It could be something related to your desktop setup, maybe some libraries are in conflict.

You could also try to use different USB port, maybe switching between USB 2 / 3 would make a difference.

I am also facing the exact same issue on my Alienware m15 R6 laptop running ubuntu 18.04 (bionic).

I tried swtiching USB ports but no luck.

The camera does work on another laptop (Dell xps15) and on my PC, so there doesn't seem to be a problem with the camera.

I installed dv-gui and dv-runtime-dev from the inivation-bionic ppa as mentioned in the docs.

Also installed libusb and libserialport as suggested.

Please let me know if you have any ideas on this!

Hi,

When you have camera connection issues, the recommended procedure to troubleshoot is the following:

• Make sure you have the latest version of DV: https://inivation.gitlab.io/dv/dv-docs/docs/getting-started/#download
  
• Update your camera firmware: https://inivation.gitlab.io/dv/dv-docs/docs/update-firmware/#update-procedure
• Try switching USB ports, prefer using USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB cable provided with your camera.
  
• Check the USB permissions of both your Computer and Operating System. 

If that still doesn't work, feel free to detail your issue with the associated screenshots and log files.

I solve this problem on Ubuntu18.04 by changing the USB permission.

 1. find the right bus number and device number.

$ lsusb

Bus 004 Device 010: ID 152a:841a Thesycon Systemsoftware & Consulting GmbH INI DAViS FX3

2. 

$ sudo chmod 777 /dev/bus/usb/004/010

Then I found that davis346 参 work when I opened the DV

Hello, we found an issue in the udev rules installation of the Ubuntu
Bionic 18.04 package of libcaer, we've just released an updated package
libcaer-3.3.14-2 to address this.
A standard 'apt-get update && apt-get upgrade' will install the update
and fix this issue, which affects Ubuntu 18.04 ONLY!
