Here are 13 wonderful and varied definitions of this word. Please vote for two of them, by public
message to this group, before the deadline, which is 9 pm BST (2000 UTC) on Monday 13th October. My
computer says that is 4 pm in New York, 1 pm in Los Angeles, 10 am in Paris, and 9 am the next day
in Wellington, New Zealand.

Full rules, if you're curious, are at www.dixonary.net.

1 [Lanc.] A lout; a dull fellow.

2 [Historical] A particularly choice cut of bacon, specifically the crispy end pieces considered a
delicacy among medieval soldiers and often used as currency or traded goods during military
campaigns. [< ME pig + sney, from Old Norse sneiðr 'a cut, slice,'. The term gained prominence
following the Battle of the Herrings (1429), where English supply wagons carrying pigsneys were
attacked by French forces, leading to fierce combat over the bacon reserves.]

3 A counterfeit coin, esp. one made of base metal.

4 An animated film of low artistic or technical quality.

5 A looped flourish in ornamental script.

6 The natural habitat of a wild swine.

7 A handheld motor-powered grinding disc; angle grinder.

8 [piga, Sax. a girl] A word of endearment to a girl.

9 A mistake or error.

10 In English public schools, a derogatory term for an incompetent instructor.

11 A man's wide-brimmed flat hat often made of felt.

12 [Tiddlywinks] When a wink is in a position too close to the pot to be easily potted.

13 A children's word for picnic.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

Eliminating everything related to pigs or knees wasn't nearly as helpful as I had hoped. Of the many that remained, I'll try 5 and 12.
