1 [Lanc.] A lout; a dull fellow.
2 [Historical] A particularly choice cut of bacon, specifically the crispy end pieces considered a
delicacy among medieval soldiers and often used as currency or traded goods during military
campaigns. [< ME pig + sney, from Old Norse sneiðr 'a cut, slice,'. The term gained prominence
following the Battle of the Herrings (1429), where English supply wagons carrying pigsneys were
attacked by French forces, leading to fierce combat over the bacon reserves.]
